Putting capability management into practice requires both a solid theoretical foundation and realistic approaches. This book introduces a development methodology that integrates business and information system development and run-time adjustment based on the concept of capability by presenting the main findings of the CaaS project – the Capability-Driven Development (CDD) methodology, the architecture and components of the CDD environment, examples of real-world applications of CDD, and aspects of CDD usage for creating business value and new opportunities. Capability thinking characterizes an organizational mindset, putting capabilities at the center of the business model and information systems development. It is expected to help organizations and in particular digital enterprises to increase flexibility and agility in adapting to changes in their economic and regulatory environments. Capability management denotes the principles of how capability thinking should be implemented in an organization and the organizational means. This book is intended for anyone who wants to explore the opportunities for developing and managing context-dependent business capabilities and the supporting business services. It does not require a detailed understanding of specific development methods and tools, although some background knowledge and experience in information system development is advisable. The individual chapters have been written by leading researchers in the field of information systems development, enterprise modeling and capability management, as well as practitioners and industrial experts from these fields.

The integration of technological innovations, such as In-Memory Analytics, Cloud Computing, Mobile Connectivity, and Social Media, with business practice can enable significant competitive advantage. In order to embrace recent challenges and changes in the governance of IT strategies, SAP and its think tank - the Business Transformation Academy (BTA) - have jointly developed the Digital Capability Framework (DCF). Digital Enterprise Transformation presents how these companies take advantage of innovative IT and how they develop their digital capabilities. On top the authors also develop and present a range of novel yet hands-on Digital Use Cases for a number of different industries which have emerged from innovative technological trends such as: Big Data, Cloud Computing, 3D Printing and Internet of Things.

This book constitutes extended, revised and selected papers from the 22nd International Conference on Enterprise Information Systems, ICEIS 2020, held online during May 5-7, 2020. The 41 papers presented in this volume were carefully reviewed and selected for inclusion in this book from a total of 255 submissions. This book constitutes the proceedings of the 21st International Conference on Perspectives in Business Informatics Research, BIR 2022, which took place in Rostock, Germany, in September 2022. The central theme of BIR 2022 was “Business Informatics for Sustainable Innovation”. Achieving sustainability requires a multi-perspective approach taking organizational, economic, and technical aspects into account. In a world of cloud computing, social networks and big data, additional challenges for business informatics and the design of information systems architectures are introduced. To deal with these challenges, a close cooperation of researchers from different disciplines such as information systems, business informatics, and computer science is required. The 14 papers presented in this volume were carefully reviewed and selected from 41 submissions. This book explores different aspects of and provides concrete suggestions to meet the three main challenges for becoming a “Digital Enterprise”: the transition to the digital age, the emergence of service ecosystems, and the growing role of data as a key underlying resource. As a result of these intertwined and mutually amplifying trends, today’s enterprises are confronted with several challenges that profoundly impact their design, from the definitions of products and services offered to their clients via the business processes that deliver these products and services to the underlying IT infrastructure. The contributions which are written by leading enterprise architecture researchers and managers of large corporations cover four key aspects which form each one part of the book: Part I presents experiences how different enterprises currently already need to embrace and exploit new challenges like blockchain, customer-centric services, or value co-creation networks. PoEM offers a forum for sharing experiences and knowledge between the academic community and practitioners from industry and the public sector. This year the theme of the conference is the use of enterprise modeling and enterprise architecture towards ensuring sustainability and resilience of enterprises and societies. This book constitutes the thoroughly refereed proceedings of the CAiSE Forum 2020 which was held as part of the 32nd International Conference on Advanced Information Systems Engineering, CAiSE 2020, in June 2020. The conference was held virtually due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The CAiSE Forum is a place within the CAiSE conference for presenting and discussing new ideas and tools related to information systems engineering. Intended to serve as an interactive platform, the Forum aims at the presentation of emerging new topics and controversial positions, as well as demonstration of innovative systems, tools and applications.
