BOOK EXCERPT:
‘The satanic sex ring takes place around a quarry, near your friend’s house. As well as your family there are four others, so far that we know of, involved.’ When her dad was arrested and imprisoned for violently abusing his 15 children, Esther thought her life could begin at last. She couldn't have been more wrong. Another man was ready to take advantage of this vulnerable girl. Social services stepped in again, but this time they made things much, much worse . . . If Only I Had Told is Esther’s personal and very brave memoir that tells the truth about Orkney’s 1991 satanic sex scandal. It is a shocking account of how two evil men and a flawed system let down not just a young girl but a whole community.

BOOK EXCERPT:
In this beautifully written biography penned by journalist Antoine Trépanier, the Honourable Michel Bastarache recounts his youth in Acadia and the various professional roles he occupied before becoming the first Acadian to accede to the Supreme Court of Canada. Written as a letter addressed to his two children, who died of an incurable disease, Bastarache recounts his constant fight for equality between francophone and anglophone communities. He reminisces on his commitment among groups protecting francophones outside Québec, then on his careers as teacher, civil servant, lawyer, and judge. He takes the reader backstage to the most important causes he worked on and reveals some of the secrets of the highest court in Canada. He also weighs in on the controversy surrounding the Inquiry Commission on the process for appointing judges of the Court of Québec, as well as his mediator work for reconciliation and compensation of alleged victims of sexual abuse by ex-priests in New Brunswick.

BOOK EXCERPT:
This book is in part autobiographical in that it examines the life of Vincenzo Rulli. It is a story that needs telling. It needs telling because his life commences with an awareness of him being disassociated from his body. It needs telling because it traces the struggles of his parents and the history behind their decision to leave their country of birth and migrate to Australia in search of a better life. It is a story that needs telling because it chronicles the happy years when the family lived, worked together, children married and grandchildren and parents visited grandparents on a weekly basis, and grandchildren played together. It needs telling because it is filled with paranormal phenomena that followed Vincenzo from birth to the murder of one of his nieces and beyond. It needs telling because it chronicles thirty-four years of struggles by Vincenzo and the police of the state of NSW who having arrested charged and convicted one person, rested on their laurels, notwithstanding evidence within their own brief that points to the complicity of others, it needs telling because Vincenzo gathered evidence that should have been gathered by police and that even though this evidence supports the hypothesis that more than one person was involved, the police could not be moved from their position that only one person was involved in the murder of his niece. It needs telling because this story is proof positive for the proposition that good guys don’t always win, and yes you can get away with murder.
