Water Temperature Effects On Stage Discharge Relations In Large Alluvial Rivers

eBook Download

BOOK EXCERPT:

Observations in natural rivers as well as experimental laboratory streams indicate that water temperatures significantly affect stream stage-discharge relations, bed forms, and sediment-transport rates. However, various investigators in this field have reached conclusions that appear to be contradictory, and the complex phenomena involved are not yet fully understood. With a view to clarifying further the water-temperature effects indicated by field measurements, the Committee on Channel Stabilization canvassed the Division offices of the Corps of Engineers for available historic data on discharge and water-temperature measurements in large alluvial rivers. The basic data received on the Mississippi, Missouri, and Arkansas Rivers were analyzed to determine temperature effects on the stage-discharge relations at 31 river stages at 18 gaging stations. The tabulated basic field data are included in this report. (Author).

The Complete Guide To Fertility Awareness

eBook Download

BOOK EXCERPT:

Fertility Awareness is key to understanding sexual and reproductive health at all life stages. It can be used to either plan or avoid pregnancy. Fertility Awareness Methods (FAMs) are highly effective when motivated couples are taught by trained practitioners. These methods are in demand for ecological, medical, cultural, religious and moral reasons. The ability to control fertility naturally is a lifestyle choice. The Complete Guide to Fertility Awareness provides the science and methodology suitable for health professionals and a general audience. It covers reproductive physiology and the fertility indicators: temperature, cervical secretions and cycle length calculations. It explores ways to optimise conception and to manage conception delays. Case studies and self-assessment exercises are included throughout. The book addresses the scientific credibility of new technologies including fertility apps, home test kits, monitors and devices. The Complete Guide to Fertility Awareness offers: evidence-based information for general practitioners, practice nurses, school nurses, midwives, sexual health doctors and nurses a unique perspective on subfertility for gynaecologists and fertility nurses an authoritative source of reference for medical, nursing and midwifery students a straightforward and practical reference for new and experienced FAM users the core text for the FertilityUK Advanced Skills Course in Fertility Awareness

Variation And Gradience In Phonetics And Phonology

eBook Download

BOOK EXCERPT:

Main description: This book brings together researchers from sociolinguistics, phonetics, and phonology and provides an overview of current issues in variation and gradience in phonetics and phonology. In this book, variation at every level of phonological representation is addressed. It contributes to the growing interest in gradience and variation in theoretical phonology by combining research on the factors underlying variability and systematic quantitative results with theoretical phonological considerations.

Microwave Photonics

eBook Download

BOOK EXCERPT:

Microwave photonics continues to see rapid growth. The integration of optical fiber and wireless networks has become a commercial reality and is becoming increasingly pervasive. Such hybrid technology will lead to many innovative applications, including backhaul solutions for mobile networks and ultrabroadband wireless networks that can provide users with very high bandwidth services. Microwave Photonics, Second Edition systematically introduces important technologies and applications in this emerging field. It also reviews recent advances in micro- and millimeter-wavelength and terahertz-frequency systems. The book features contributions by leading international researchers, many of whom are pioneers in the field. They examine wave generation, measurement, detection, control, and propagation in detail, as well as the devices and components that enable ultrawide-band and ultrafast transmission, switching, and signal processing. These devices and components include optical-controlled microwave devices, optical transmitters, receivers, switching devices, detectors, and modulators. The book explores the theory, techniques, and technologies that are fueling applications such as radio-over-fiber, injection-locked semiconductor lasers, and terahertz photonics. Throughout, the contributors share insights on overcoming current limitations and on potential developments. What’s New in This Edition Two new chapters, on fiber Bragg gratings for microwave photonics applications and ultrawide-band sub-THz photonic wireless links Updates throughout, reflecting advances in the field New illustrations in each chapter Fully illustrated with more than 300 figures and tables, this book offers a detailed, wide-ranging overview of the current state and future directions of this burgeoning technology.
