BOOK EXCERPT:
The purpose of this writing this book is to express the properties of Rise Husk Ash (RHA) based geopoylmer incorporate with, (GGBS) at ambient curing conditions, which ican be trated as a substitute to the (OPC). The work constructs with subsidizes for fabrication of innovative eco-friendly binders in concrete. Even though, present several reasearch that evaluate the performance of geopolymer. using numerous kinds of source material, much of this research has concentrated on rice husk ash as primary source material. Only inadequate studies till conducted in large-volume mortars of RHA-based geopolymer, using sensible compressive strength and no further studies with GGBS have been combined.

BOOK EXCERPT:
Advanced Building Envelope Components: Comparative Experiments focuses on the latest research in innovative materials, systems and components, also providing a detailed technical explanation on what this breakthrough means for building exteriors and sustainability. Topics include a discussion of transparent envelope components, including intelligent kinetic skins, such as low-e coatings, high vs. low silver content in glass, solar control coatings, such as silver vs. niobium vs. tin, and more. In addition, opaque envelope components are also presented, including opaque dynamic facades, clay lining vs. plasterboard and nano clayed foams. - Includes real case studies that explore, in detail, the behavior of different envelopes - Presents laboratory tests on existing insulation (if any, through samples extracted on-site) to quantify actual performances - Provides the tools and methods for comparing, selecting and testing materials and components for designing effective building envelopes - Covers both transparent and opaque envelope components, as well as opaque dynamic facades

BOOK EXCERPT:
""Building Materials"" offers a comprehensive exploration of construction materials that seamlessly weaves together scientific principles, historical evolution, and sustainable practices in the built environment. This multifaceted examination investigates how material choices influence not only structural integrity but also environmental impact and cultural identity across different societies and time periods. The book uniquely bridges the gap between traditional building practices and modern materials science, making complex technical concepts accessible through practical examples and real-world applications. The text progresses logically through three main sections, beginning with an in-depth analysis of physical and chemical properties of materials, from ancient stone and wood to cutting-edge synthetics. The narrative then advances to material processing and manufacturing techniques, before culminating in a thorough examination of sustainability considerations and life-cycle assessments. Through detailed case studies of significant buildings worldwide and laboratory testing data, readers gain practical insights into material selection and performance evaluation. What sets this work apart is its interdisciplinary approach, combining insights from chemistry, environmental science, and structural engineering to provide a holistic understanding of building materials. The content proves particularly valuable for architecture and engineering students, as well as construction professionals, offering both theoretical knowledge and practical guidance for making informed decisions about material selection that balance performance, cost, and sustainability. Through accessible language and comprehensive visual aids, the book serves as both a technical reference and a practical guide for understanding the evolving landscape of construction materials.

BOOK EXCERPT:
Sustainability and Toxicity of Building Materials: Manufacture, Use and Disposal Stages provides a review of toxicity impacts from building materials, including the consideration of the toxicity in the extraction and manufacture of the materials and eventual dismantling and disposal. This book also offers the potential to stimulate future developments in this area, both in terms of knowledge-building and methods for future research. With the increasing emphasis on sustainable construction, it has become important to better understand the impacts of common materials. Civil and structural engineers, postgraduates, researchers as well as architects will find this book to be useful in selecting sustainable building materials. While many building and furnishing materials are safe to use, in recent decades, some have had to be redesigned due to recognition that they contained problem chemicals like formaldehyde. Unfortunately, there is still limited understanding of the toxic impacts of many synthetic chemicals which means that the risks in this area are not well recognized. With increasing interest in using limited resources more sustainably, definitions of what is sustainable should be expanded to move from the focus on energy and carbon impacts to also include more explicit consideration of toxicity impacts. - Examines toxicity in the extraction and manufacturing of materials - Presents the short and long-term toxicity effects of natural and manmade building materials - Guides readers in selecting building materials that have a positive impact on the health of occupants and the environment
