Songs For Children Of Light

eBook Download

BOOK EXCERPT:

This work began with the taking of notes on insights and observations derived from contemplation of the Bible, my own life, and the death of my sister. The writings were initially oriented toward the composition of a filmscript, whose purpose was to depict, abstractly, scenes common to the lives of all mankind from birth to death. In February of 1984, well over a year into this project, these lyrics began to pour forth from me. Three-quarters of them were finished before the end of the month. During this period of my life, I underwent an intense conversion to purity of soul. I immersed myself in the practice of all the artistic mediums, including painting and sculpture, poetry, music, dance, and drama. Striving to be an artist for Christ, my life became as a cross between graduate student, monk, and convict. This way of living and working continued for seven years and resulted in the creation of the large manuscript, Songs for Children of Light: Ten Albums of Lyrics, Music, Dance, and Drama. In this volume, I present the lyric portion of the project with accompanying illustrations. May the Light of the Spirit be with you as you read the words herein. James Kurt June 23, 1995

What Children Bring To Light

eBook Download

BOOK EXCERPT:

Bonnie Shapiro clarifies the historical development of constructivism, and employs a constructivist approach in her own methodology. To construct new ideas means to take action based on beliefs about what one is doing when one is learning science. Learning is understood not only as a cognitive experience, but also as one that derives from the emotional, personal, social, cultural, and preconceptual. These often neglected dimensions, which permeate all subject matter learning, are given high status in What Children Bring to Light. Six case studies, each emphasizing a very different reception of one teacher’s inroduction of the topic, light, form the core of the book. Shapiro not only analyzes this core in the book’s third part, but shares the thinking that lies behind the research and data collection. “Not only is this book valuable reading for the practitioner, but it is also a model of how curriclum learning theory research can be communicated in an interesting yet scholarly way.” —The Science Teacher

Children S Language

eBook Download

BOOK EXCERPT:

First published in 1983. This series, Children’s Language, reflects the conviction that extensive work on entirely new fronts along with a great deal of reinterpretation of old-front data will be necessary before any persuasive and truly orderly account of language. For all volumes in the series there is a common scheme of operation with two tactics. First, to give authors sufficient planning time and freedom to arrive at a chapter-length account of their area of thinking which vividly shows both the progress and the problems in that area, with the author of each chapter free to find a workable proportion of new experimental contributions, review, and theory. The second tactic concerns the selection of topics for each volume. This is Volume 4. Structures about language and thought and children as employed in certain other fields may well be shaken and stimulated, particularly in education, sociology, anthropology, literature, and language remediation.
