eBook Download

BOOK EXCERPT:

This is the first monograph devoted to clean ring and matrix theory. It aims to study a theory of expressing an element in a ring as the sum of some special ones, such as idempotents, units, nilpotents, tripotents, involutions, etc. A matrix over such rings is thereby expressed as the sum of some special matrices. Also another topics on the behaviors of topological properties and *-properties of such rings are investigated. The book is based on the results of various published papers, particularly, by the authors'. It is accessible for students familiar with general abstract algebra, while the topics are interesting for researchers in the field of ring, matrix and operator theory.

Sweet And Clean

eBook Download

BOOK EXCERPT:

Sweet and Clean? challenges the widely held beliefs on bathing and cleanliness in the past. For over thirty years, the work of the French historian, George Vigarello, has been hugely influential on early modern European social history, describing an aversion to water and bathing, and the use of linen underwear as the sole cleaning agent for the body. However, these concepts do not apply to early modern England. Sweet and Clean? analyses etiquette and medical literature, revealing repeated recommendations to wash or bathe in order to clean the skin. Clean linen was essential for propriety but advice from medical experts was contradictory. Many doctors were convinced that it prevented the spread of contagious diseases, but others recommended flannel for undergarments, and a few thought changing a fever patient's linens was dangerous. The methodology of material culture helps determine if and how this advice was practiced. Evidence from inventories, household accounts and manuals, and surviving linen garments tracks underwear through its life-cycle of production, making, wearing, laundering, and final recycling. Although the material culture of washing bodies is much sparser, other sources, such as the Old Bailey records, paint a more accurate picture of cleanliness in early modern England than has been previously described. The contrasting analyses of linen and bodies reveal what histories material culture best serves. Finally, what of the diseases-plague, smallpox, and typhus-that cleanliness of body and clothes were thought to prevent? Did following early modern medical advice protect people from these illnesses?

Clean Eating

eBook Download

BOOK EXCERPT:

Clean Eating Clean Eating Recipes for a Healthy Clean Diet The clean diet plan has taken on many different shapes. Eating three meals a day, plus one snack is one version. Consuming nothing but vegetables and lean meat, while having 5-6 small meals per day, is another. This book will define clean eating as food was originally meant to be, healthy and nutritious. A diet should not turn into a full time job of hunting for the latest and greatest foods, or spending money on roots and herbs that just taste bad. A good, clean diet should consist of what is available in your area, learning what foods are causing weight gain and medical problems, and where to find substitutes, that are just as tasty. You may recognize a few recipes as ones that your grandmother prepared, when you were a child. The vast aromas that filled her home and the awesome flavors that tickled your palette, probably had more to do with the foods that she carefully selected, than her method of cooking. If you think that memories like these, are long gone with another time, you are about to discover that your taste buds can be ignited again. By following clean eating habits, as opposed to constantly consuming processed and GMO products, that have robbed your sense of taste, your body can recuperate. Learn what your body thinks of foods that have been stripped of nutrition and the signals that they send to your brain. Finding the right ingredients for making dishes such as Italian Cheese Quesadillas, or a warm and rich Banana-Walnut Bread, can be found in any grocery store. These are just a couple of examples of good old fashioned clean eating recipes, that use ingredients, featuring tons of nutrition. Lists of clean, alternative products will be presented, and also, tips for buying healthy, without spending a lot of money.

Clean Energy

eBook Download

BOOK EXCERPT:

Clean Energy presents a broad survey of the energy problems facing society over the coming decades and the prospects for their solution. The book emphasizes the importance of developing a strategy for the world's future energy supply. The strategy must take into account: the finite supplies of natural gas and petroleum; the increased consumption of fuel by developing economies; the concern over greenhouse gas emissions; the pollution caused by burning coal (especially coal with a high sulphur content); the difficulties and costs of extracting unconventional fossil fuels; and the technical, sociological and cost barriers that restrict the use of renewable forms of energy. Clean Energy sets the various renewable energies (wind, waves, solar etc) in the context of present and projected world production of energy and its use in the time-frame until 2020 and looks speculatively beyond that. It looks at the possibilities for reducing pollution from fossil fuels and tackles the serious problem of how to store energy, in order to smooth out fluctuations in supply and demand. Clean Energy is well illustrated with diagrams and photographs. It is accessible to anyone who has studied science to A-level and will appeal to anyone with a serious interest in environmental matters, and the interaction between energy usage and the environment.
