I have a friend who recently told me that the Lord has to return this year because he can't hold out any longer. Others want to know when he is coming so they can slack off until that day. My reaction is radically different. The more facts that we learn about the end of the age, the more motivated we should become. Many Christians have the point of view that he hasn't returned in 2,000 years so there is no reason to believe that he will return in their lifetime. These people are in for a shock. Have you ever wondered if there was any way to tell when the world will end? Does it puzzle you why the Magi knew when Jesus came the first time and yet we are told that we can't know when he will return? John Pyles seeks to prove that we can indeed know the course and timetable of end-times events. Using a series of biblical clues, John establishes a timeline for Creation, the birth of Christ, and His Second Coming. We truly can know and understand The Beginning and End of the World as We Know It.

This book examines six major passages of scripture dealing with the second coming within their context. Included in this is an overview of the Book of Revelation. Most books on the subject bounce from verse to verse making the study of end-time prophecy difficult to follow. The subject of the second coming and the rapture has proven to be confusing to many, but, by keeping the pasages in focus, the reader can more easily follow what the Lord and the Apostles are teaching. In this book, two primary teachings are dealt with: the rapture and how it impacts the future role of Jewish people with the Gospel of Christ. Understanding when the rapture occurs: before, during, or after the Great Tribulation is crucial to our undestanding of what God has planned for Israel in the coming future. If we don't understand the timing of the rapture, we absolutely cannot understand the future role of Israel in the Kingdom of God. If we don't understand Israel, we cannot adequately understand the Second Coming of Christ and its related events. Also addressed in this book is the emerging Messianic movement within Christianity; what role it will come to play in the gospel, and what some of the issues are confronting the movement. J.L. Hendricks has been a pastor for over forty-five years. He and his wife Barbara have four married children and nine grandchildren who are all actively involved in the Lord's work. Currently, pastor Hendricks is director of Israel's Fullness, a ministry seeking to take the gospel to both Jews and Gentiles. In 1990, he co-founded a national Messianic fellowship. His efforts in taking the gospel to Jewish people became the foundation for the writing of this book.

Schleiermacher was a preacher, a clergyman of the Reformed Church in Germany, based in Berlin. He was also a popular author and teacher. Karl Barth described him first as a pastor, then a professor, and last of all a philosopher. He was controversial and remains controversial in all of these roles. He remains a seminal thinker, a pioneer in seeking to make Christianity speak with a modern voice. He addressed nineteenth-century Germany. He raised issues relevant to the twenty-first century. His best known works are On Religion: Speeches to its Cultured Despisers (1799) and The Christian Faith (1822), but little attention has been paid to his sermons, although he preached regularly to large congregations for over thirty years. This book is a glimpse at Schleiermacher in the pulpit.
