Food chain management research can help in the analysis and redesign of value creation and the product flow throughout the chain from primary producer down to the consumer. The aim is to meet consumer and societal requirements effectively at minimal cost. In the Wageningen UR strategic research program, Agrologistics and Supply Chains (2005-2009), a large number of Wageningen UR research institutes were involved in multi-disciplinary and applied research projects in order to shed light on diverse food supply chain management challenges such as, design of chain strategies, collaboration efficiencies between chain partners, management of risks in chains, innovative modeling concepts and application of information technologies. This book presents the results of this program. It offers a diverse disciplinary spectrum on food supply chains and it’s challenges in 15 chapters. It contributes considerably to the advancement of our knowledge on management and control of food supply chains.

This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 4th International Symposium on Model-Based Safety and Assessment, IMBSA 2014, held in Munich, Germany, in October 2014. The Flexible Multi-Partner Mechanism (FMM), as FAO’s main pooled multi-partner flexible funding instrument, enables resource partners to contribute voluntary and less-earmarked financial resources to support the delivery of programmatic results under FAO’s Strategic Framework. With the acceleration of China's “carbon peak, carbon neutrality” process and the deepening of energy transformation, the demands for flexible regulated resources in the power system will be further increased. The installed capacity of gas turbines will have a great room for its growth. Combined with the speed-up development of electricity-to-gas technology, the electricity-gas interconnection systems (EGIS) are becoming the essential energy carriers. The construction of EGIS promotes renewable energy consumption and low-carbon transition of the energy systems. At the same time, it also brings about some potential security risks. The interdependence of the heterogeneous energy flows makes it possible that a failure on either side of the electric or natural gas system may spread across the systems through the coupling devices, eventually resulting in the cascading failures in the EGIS. There is an urgency to establish an effective coordinated security mechanism to strengthen the regular coordinated risk management, the coordinated control, and the energy exchange capability under extreme events. This book reviews the latest research progresses on the coordinated security mechanisms for the EGIS.
