BOOK EXCERPT:
Dame Phyllis Frost was a remarkable woman who chaired countless organisations, raised millions of dollars for charitable causes, galvanised states into action after natural disasters and shamed countless politicians into action. Far from being ‘just a suburban housewife’– a phrase that she wielded like a weapon in her campaigns – Dame Phyllis was a force to be reckoned with. Nothing Like a Dame, her biography by BERNADETTE CLOHESY, reveals how Dame Phyllis fought for prison reform at a time when prisoners were locked away and forgotten; how she established the Keep Australia Beautiful movement; and how she became the national president of the Australian Freedom from Hunger Campaign. This is an amazing story following one woman’s battle for social reform.

BOOK EXCERPT:
Aint nothing like being married to an elderly man. Written for single and married women. Mental and physical abused women. Women of all races and background. It is a resource for knowledge of the Do and Donts of a relationship and or marriage. Used as a reference book, it offers my readers facts and information. This book is a hard core, no hold barred. Although this womens book can be enjoyed by anyone, including single and married men, it was specifically written for adult woman that seeks a relationship with elderly men. As you probably know, more than 50 million women in and out of the United States have dealt with a marriage for all the wrong reasons. These women too often accept the abuse simply because of a lack of knowledge. Having low self-esteem, women fail to realize they are Queens. Women deserve to be respected. Although other books, such as, Women Beatings through the Eyes of the Abuser, have tried to provide information, the book usually lack a womans point of view. (What abuse woman really wants to get information from the abuser himself?) And none of the books uses the hard core approach an approach that has revolutionized the way I see women as part of my own family.

BOOK EXCERPT:
September 19, 1985: A powerful earthquake hits Mexico City in the early morning hours. As the city collapses, the government fails to respond. Long a voice of social conscience, prominent Mexican journalist Elena Poniatowska chronicles the disintegration of the city's physical and social structure, the widespread grassroots organizing against government corruption and incompetence, and the reliency of the human spirit. As a transformative moment in the life of mexican society, the earthquake is as much a component of the country's current crisis as the 1982 debt crisis, the problematic economic of the last ten years, and the recent elections. In masterfully weaving together a multiplicity of voices, Poniatowska has reasserted the inherent value and latent power of people working together. Punctuated by Poniatowska's own experiences and observations, these post disaster testimonies speak of the disruption of families and neighborhoods, of the destruction of homes and hospitals, of mutilation and death—the collective loss of a city. Drawing the reader dramatically into the scene of national horror through dozens of personal stories, Poniatowska demonstrates the importance of courage and self-reliance in redeeming life from chaos.
