Islands Of The Soul

eBook Download

BOOK EXCERPT:

When a bridge opens to the realms beyond our own, it is up to us to take the initiative and cross to the other side. This cannot be successfully completed if we choose the path that leads us toward negativity and unhappiness. That is why Pete and Mejik have come; to extend an invitation... This remarkable book takes us on an adventure to the source of our Truth; that which we must uncover in order to be happy. Through the sacred words of Pete and Mejik, entities who have brought their timeless wisdom to this world, secrets long forgotten are once again revealed. Islands of the Soul employs visualizations and meditations meant to connect us with the seven Islands within us; Quality, Love, Knowledge, Beauty, Balance, Perception, and Nothingness. It is a guide to the regions of our selves that we too often ignore, yet desperately yearn to find. Instead of looking to outside sources for what we desire, we are taught that we alone have the power to manifest our dreams and wishes. We walk away from this book feeling enlightened, knowing we can achieve anything without fear. For once we choose to access our Islands, we create a pathway beyond the realm of fear; a pathway to the Divine within.

Popular Errors Explained

eBook Download

BOOK EXCERPT:

In 1841 John Timbs wrote a book called Popular Errors Explained. It went on - with Timbs' other great series 'Curiosities of ...' - to become one of the great popular books of the 19th century, running into many editions and selling hundreds of thousands of copies. Some say the popularity of his one hundred and fifty volumes led him to outsell a certain Mr Dickens. Stewart McCartney, under the Timb's title of Popular Errors Explained has created a new book, capturing the zeal and enthusiasm of the original, to be 'agreeable, by way of abstract and anecdote so as to become an advantageous and amusing guest at any intellectual fireside.' The book has completely new material - around 200 or so 'popular errors' from science and literature, history, sport, popular culture and so on. Each entry will have that eyebrow raising 'I didn't know that!' or 'Surely that cannot be true!' feel. Every one will explode a commonly held misbelief.

Ecosystems Of California

eBook Download

BOOK EXCERPT:

This long-anticipated reference and sourcebook for California’s remarkable ecological abundance provides an integrated assessment of each major ecosystem type—its distribution, structure, function, and management. A comprehensive synthesis of our knowledge about this biologically diverse state, Ecosystems of California covers the state from oceans to mountaintops using multiple lenses: past and present, flora and fauna, aquatic and terrestrial, natural and managed. Each chapter evaluates natural processes for a specific ecosystem, describes drivers of change, and discusses how that ecosystem may be altered in the future. This book also explores the drivers of California’s ecological patterns and the history of the state’s various ecosystems, outlining how the challenges of climate change and invasive species and opportunities for regulation and stewardship could potentially affect the state’s ecosystems. The text explicitly incorporates both human impacts and conservation and restoration efforts and shows how ecosystems support human well-being. Edited by two esteemed ecosystem ecologists and with overviews by leading experts on each ecosystem, this definitive work will be indispensable for natural resource management and conservation professionals as well as for undergraduate or graduate students of California’s environment and curious naturalists.

Ethnology Of Vanuatu

eBook Download

BOOK EXCERPT:

Originally published in German in 1923, this work records much of Vanuatu's early material culture. It is the result of two years of field work by Swiss anthropologist Felix Speiser between 1910 and 1912. Speiser attempted to collect everything that could still be obtained of the objects constituting Vanuatu's native culture. Ethnology of Vanuatu presents culturally and historically significant photographs and drawings by Speiser assembled during the expedition, along with color photos taken in the Basel Museum, which, taken together, represent the Speiser collection. Through the use of Speiser's collection of cultural photographs and illustrations, it has been possible to revive certain art forms thought to have already vanished.
