INSTANT NATIONAL BESTSELLER From the distinct and vibrant voice behind Hockey Night in Canada Punjabi comes the story of pursuing a dream and defying the odds, reminding us all of hockey's power to unite. BoninoBoninoBonino! Ask a hockey fan if they have heard the wonderfully electric call of Nick Bonino's overtime-winning goal from the 2016 Stanley Cup Final and they will almost surely answer with a resounding yes! That's because video clips of the Hockey Night in Punjabi broadcast immediately went viral, amplifying the profile of Harnarayan Singh, the voice behind the call. Growing up in small-town Alberta, Harnarayan was like many other kids who dreamed about a life within the sanctum of the game they idolized. There was only one small difference--he didn't look like any of the other kids. And when he sat down on Saturday nights to tune in to Hockey Night in Canada with the rest of the nation, he couldn't ignore the fact that the broadcasters or analysts didn't look like him either. Undeterred, Harnarayan worked his way from calling imaginary hockey games with his plastic toy microphone as a child, to funding secret flights from Calgary to Toronto every weekend in the early days of Hockey Night in Punjabi, to making history as the first Sikh to broadcast an NHL game in English. Full of heart, humour, and bursting with personality (and maybe a few family prayers for Wayne Gretzky), One Game at a Time is the incredible and inspiring story of how Harnarayan Singh broke through the longstanding barriers and biases of the sport he loves. But more than that, Harnarayan blends his unabashed love of hockey with a refreshing and necessary positive message about what it means to be a Canadian in the world, making him one of the most influential ambassadors of the game today.

This is a true story (part two of my story) written to give hope to anyone who has, or is now, dealing with some form of abuse. This book allows the reader to experience the painful process of reliving flashbacks, memories and nightmares. Opening old wounds so that I could heal required a lot of effort and determination. The devastation of abuse at the hands of my parents and in other relationships and my steps to survive is clearly told. My parents programming was so strong that my brothers and I continued playing our role's even as adults. Everyone in the small town where I grew up thought we were a normal loving family. The chain of people abuse can effect throughout our lifetime is endless. This book is not a plea for sympathy. My goal is increased awareness at the chain of injustice brought on by all forms of abuse. Chains can be broken / One link at a time.

BOOK EXCERPT:
Bullied and abused at the Fort Alexander Indian Residential day school, Diane Morrisseau fought back and left school at the age of fifteen. Despite her strength, a childhood of trauma and abuse led her into the arms of Edgar Olson, and by sixteen, the young Ojibway-Anishinabe woman had given birth to her first child and married the man who would become her tormentor for the next eighteen years. Notoriously violent, her abuser was aided and abetted by the systems of colonialism that failed to protect Diane during her childhood. Edgar was able to keep Diane and her children trapped in a cycle of violence for years, without being held accountable by law or society. What could have been a chronicle of unrelenting hardship instead becomes a narrative of how, in horrific circumstances, Diane found the strength to survive, reclaim her life, and eventually thrive. Today she draws meaning from her painful past, counseling women, children and men experiencing similarly difficult circumstances.

Boris Jeremenko vaguely remembers April 10, 1951—the day his ship arrived in New York Harbor from a refugee camp in Atmont, Austria. After his parents announced that the family had docked in America, six-year-old Boris traveled with his twin sister and parents to Fort Wayne, Indiana, to begin a new life. In a fascinating memoir accompanied by historical photographs, Boris leads others into his memories of days gone by as he reflects on his inspiring journey through life, filled with highs and lows and his unwavering faith in Jesus Christ. While sharing childhood challenges that included initial language barriers as a kindergartener and his father’s alcoholism, Boris also offers a glimpse into happy moments like riding in his beloved go-kart, attending Boy Scout camp, and operating a ham radio. As he reveals how his journey eventually led him to marry, have children, and begin a career in law enforcement that would ultimately take him into the political arena, Boris reminds all of us of the power of perseverance, prayer, and a belief in God’s plan. Running the Race One Day at a Time is the true story of an Austrian immigrant’s life experiences after he journeyed to America with his family to begin a new chapter.

BOOK EXCERPT:
Christianity Today 2020 Book Award of Merit in History/Biography For more than five decades Billy Graham (1918-2018) ranked as one of the most influential voices in the Christian world. Nearly 215 million people around the world heard him preach in person or through live electronic media, almost certainly more than any other person. For millions, Graham was less a preacher than a Protestant saint. While remaining orthodox at the core, over time his approach on many issues became more irenic and progressive. And his preaching continued to resonate, propelled by his powerful promise of a second chance. Drawing on decades of research on Billy Graham and American evangelicalism, Grant Wacker has marshalled personal interviews, archival research, and never-before-published photographs from the Graham family and others to tell the remarkable story of one of the most celebrated Christians in American history. Where Wacker’s previous work on Graham, America’s Pastor, focused on the preacher’s relation to the nation’s culture, One Soul at a Time offers a sweeping, easy-to-read narrative of the life of the man himself.
