Vulnerability and Data Protection Law offers a rich analysis of the meaning of 'data subjects' and 'vulnerability' within the context of the General Data Protection Regulation. It seeks to reconceptualise data subjects' vulnerability in the digital age and to promote a 'vulnerability-aware' interpretation of the GDPR.

The rapid development of information technology has exacerbated the need for robust personal data protection, the right to which is safeguarded by both European Union (EU) and Council of Europe (CoE) instruments. Safeguarding this important right entails new and significant challenges as technological advances expand the frontiers of areas such as surveillance, communication interception and data storage. This handbook is designed to familiarise legal practitioners not specialised in data protection with this emerging area of the law. This book contains selected papers presented at the 16th IFIP WG 9.2, 9.6/11.7, 11.6/SIG 9.2.2 International Summer School on Privacy and Identity Management, held online in August 2021.
