The Dark Side Of Close Relationships Ii

BOOK EXCERPT:

The Dark Side of Close Relationships II is a completely new and up-to-date version of the original volume published in 1998, featuring new topics and authors. The volume showcases cutting-edge work on important topics by prominent scholars in multiple disciplines. It sheds light on the paradoxical, dialectical, and mystifying facets of human interaction, not merely to elucidate dysfunctional relationship phenomena, but to help readers explore and understand it in relation to a broader understanding about relationships. As previous Dark Side investigations have revealed, negative or dysfunctional outcomes can occur in relationships even though positive and functional ones are expected, and at the same time, positive silver linings are often found in some dark relational clouds. Such nuanced approaches are needed to better account for the complexity of close relationships. A unique and provocative collection, this volume will appeal to relationship researchers in communication, social psychology, family studies, and sociology.

BOOK EXCERPT:

As a very young child, I was raised in a household filled with doom, gloom, poverty, and shame And when I married at the age of sixteen, I was already steeped in a way of life as a female; whom were looked upon as less than a man. Only now, despair was added to my host of painful, negative emotions Nobody but God freed me from the house of bondage Now, here in my ladder years, I live in the house, my house of love, peace, joy, wholeness and prosperity; nothing broken and nothing missing in my spirit Thanks be unto Father God, Lord Jesus, and the Holy Spirit. As far as Im concerned, what Satan purposed for my destruction, the Lord purposed for my destiny! Glory! With the leadership of the Holy Spirit in my life, and many of Gods blessings, my struggling opened the door for my writing, and my writing opened the door to my prayer life Now I had someone to talk with, I could express in my writing what I was truly feeling on the inside, when peoples words, mistreatments, and disappointments had hurt me No matter how insignificant their words were, or what they did or didnt do, I could always tell God the truth about my hurt feelings. And He always allowed me to cry for as long as I needed to My tears were Gods way of washing away the hurt and replacing it with tenderness and love, putting me back together This was and is how I cope with life even todayMy prayer life goes beyond pen and paper; Im constantly talking to God in my mind throughout my day and night. This is who I am.

Regency Romance Classics Samuel Richardson Collection

BOOK EXCERPT:

E-artnow presents to you the anthology of Regency Classics, the Samuel Richardson edition. This volume includes his complete novels, including: Pamela Clarissa Sir Charles Grandison "Clarissa: The History of a Young Lady" is regency bestseller, the classic of English literature. It tells the tragic story of a young woman, whose quest for virtue is continually thwarted by her family. The Harlowes are a recently wealthy family whose preoccupation with increasing their standing in society leads to obsessive control of their daughter, Clarissa, who runs away from home to find love and happiness. However things start turning south soon. A best-seller of its time, "Pamela" tells the story of a fifteen-year-old maidservant named Pamela Andrews, whose employer, Mr. B, a wealthy landowner, makes unwanted and inappropriate advances towards her after the death of his mother. Pamela was an early commentary on domestic violence and brought into question the dynamic line between male aggression and a contemporary view of love. Moreover, Pamela, despite the controversies, was able to shed light on social issues that transcended the novel for the time such as gender roles, early false-imprisonment, and class barriers present in the eighteenth century. The novel "Sir Charles Grandison" begins with the character of Harriet Byron leaving the house of her uncle, George Selby, to visit Mr. and Mrs. Reeves, her cousins, in London. She is an orphan who was educated by her grandparents, and, though she lacks parents, she is heir to a fortune of fifteen thousand pounds, which causes many suitors to pursue her. In London, she is pursued by three suitors: Mr. Greville, Mr. Fenwick, and Mr. Orme. This courtship is followed by more suitors: Mr. Fowler, Sir Rowland Meredith, and Sir Hargrave Pollexfen. The final one, Pollexfen, pursues Byron vigorously, which causes her to criticise him over a lack of morals and decency of character. However, Pollexfen does not end his pursuits of Byron until she explains that she could never receive his visits again. Pollexfen, unwilling to be without Byron, decides to kidnap her while she attended a masquerade ball at the Haymarket. Samuel Richardson (1689-1761) was a beloved English writer, extremely popular in the time of Regency. He is best known for his novels: Pamela; or, Virtue Rewarded (1740), Clarissa: Or the History of a Young Lady (1748) and The History of Sir Charles Grandison (1753).

Loving Resistance And Resistance Through Love

eBook Download

BOOK EXCERPT:

The Letter to Philemon is one of the most beautiful rhetorical letters written by Paul--and yet, at the same time, perhaps the most underread letter in the New Testament. Paul wrote this letter out of love, hoping to persuade the slave master Philemon to choose compassion rather than follow the typical Roman attitudes towards slaves; to treat Onesimus as a brother in Christ rather than as an inferior, subhuman chattel. This letter is not only theologically important but also important in a practical sense because it is more than mere words--it is a testimony. In order for readers to better appreciate the true depth of the meanings in the letter, this book is written in a rather creative way. Each chapter begins with a selected scene from the movie Les Miserables, to introduce the key theme of the chapter. Then the author will interpret the details of the text of the letter and the other relevant texts in the Pauline corpus. The final section of each chapter is a creative story, based on the text and historical context. The purpose of inventing these creative stories is to help readers better grasp the historical context and, most importantly, the rhetoric in the letter.
