Research Methodology Theory Techniques

eBook Download

BOOK EXCERPT:

Research is a that is used to collect new information in order to fulfil certain goals. The findings of the research make it possible for us to organize all of this newly acquired information into a logical structure, which can be thought of as a collection of concepts that are interconnected with one another and that can both explain what has already occurred and predict what might occur in the future. When conducting out research, it is essential to do things in the order that has been established beforehand. The specific order of events and procedures takes on some slender alterations according to the nature of the research being carried out. The techniques take on a slightly different flavor depending on whether the data and methodology used into the study are quantitative or qualitative in nature. The word "research" is made up of the two syllables "re" and "seek," which were combined to make the word. The former is a prefix that might signify again, a new, or over again, whereas the latter is a verb that can mean to examine carefully and in great detail, to test and try, or to investigate. You may find the definitions of both of these terms in the dictionary. The concept of "research" can be disassembled into its component parts, the most fundamental of which are the hunt for facts, the pursuit of responses to research questions, and the investigation of possible remedies to an existing problem. When we speak of "research," we are referring to an investigation that is critical, methodical, and governed by empirical data. This study investigates assertions that have been made about a possible connection between several different occurrences. Research can be defined as a structured investigation into a subject area with the intention of identifying answers to problems. The conclusion that we are able to arrive at is that the term "research" refers to the methodical procedure that includes elaborating on the problem, developing a hypothesis, gathering the facts or data, conducting an analysis of the facts, and arriving at certain conclusions, which can either take the form of potential solutions to the problem at hand or certain generalizations for some theoretical formulation. We are able to come to this conclusion because we have the ability to draw the connection between these steps

Practice Methodologies In Education Research

eBook Download

BOOK EXCERPT:

Practice Methodologies in Education Research offers a fresh approach to researching practice in education. Addressing a major gap in research methodology scholarship, it highlights how integral practice theory is to the transformational agendas of education research, introducing a theory of activist practice methodologies informed by expansive theories of practice. With contributions from leading education researchers drawn from across the world, the book confronts onto-epistemological dilemmas for doing research that arise from taking practice theory seriously, including the theories of Bourdieu, de Certeau, Deleuze, Haraway, Latour, Taylor, and Vygotsky. A defining feature of the chapters is their activist axiologies and their experimental approach to researching practice in education, in fields as diverse as educational leadership, schooling, higher education, adult and workplace education and training, professional practice, and informal learning. Practice Methodologies in Education is essential reading for education academics and postgraduates engaged in critical research using practice theory.

Advances In Mixed Methods Research

eBook Download

BOOK EXCERPT:

Advances in Mixed Methods Research provides an essential introduction to the fast-growing field of mixed methods research. Bergman′s book examines the current state of mixed-methods research, exploring exciting new ways of conceptualizing and conducting empirical research in the social and health sciences. Contributions from the world′s leading experts in qualitative, quantitative, and mixed methods approaches are brought together, clearing the way for a more constructive approach to social research. These contributions cover the main practical and methodological issues and include a number of different visions of what mixed methods research is. The discussion also covers the use of mixed methods in a diverse range of fields, including sociology, education, politics, psychology, computational science and methodology. This book represents an important contribution to the ongoing debate surrounding the use of mixed methods in the social sciences and health research, and presents a convincing argument that the conventional, paradigmatic view of qualitative and quantitative research is outdated and in need of replacement. It will be essential reading for anyone actively engaged in qualitative, quantitative and mixed methods research and for students of social research methods. Manfred Max Bergman is Chair of Methodology and Political Sociology at the University of Basel.
