The Charge Of God S Royal Children

eBook Download

BOOK EXCERPT:

The Charge of God’s Royal Children uses the tools of literary criticism (e.g., structure, plot, repetition, rhetorical aims, etc.) to analyze the explicit references to the imago Dei in Gen 1:26–28, 5:1–3, and 9:6 and how these references relate to one another and the developing narrative. The work proposes that the imago Dei (e.g., humanity as God’s Royal Children) functions as a governing evaluative concept throughout Genesis 1–11, providing a standard by which the reader should evaluate the decisions and actions of the characters.

Revisit a fan-favorite Justice Brothers romance from New York Times best-selling author Sharon Sala Was she their angel? Five-year-old Maddie seemed to think so. But to her exasperated father, rancher Royal Justice, Angel Rojas—the beautiful hitchhiker who got into their car that stormy night—was nothing but an unwelcome distraction. When infuriatingly handsome Royal opened his car door for on-the-run Angel that night, she thought of him—and his adorable daughter—as a temporary reprieve. But suddenly the comfort of a little girl’s embrace—not to mention that of her rugged rancher father—felt like more than a makeshift shelter. Was she finally coming home? The Making Of Women Artists In Victorian England

eBook Download

BOOK EXCERPT:

When women were admitted to the Royal Academy Schools in 1860, female art students gained a foothold in the most conservative art institution in England. The Royal Female College of Art, the South Kensington Schools and the Slade School of Fine Art also produced increasing numbers of women artists. Their entry into a male-dominated art world altered the perspective of other artists and the public. They came from disparate levels of society--Princess Louise, the fourth daughter of Queen Victoria, studied sculpture at the National Art Training School--yet they all shared ambition, talent and courage. Analyzing their education and careers, this book argues that the women who attended the art schools during the 1860s and 1870s--including Kate Greenaway, Elizabeth Butler, Helen Allingham, Evelyn De Morgan and Henrietta Rae--produced work that would accommodate yet subtly challenge the orthodoxies of the fine art establishment. Without their contributions, Victorian art would be not simply the poorer but hardly recognizable to us today.

Play And Wellbeing

eBook Download

BOOK EXCERPT:

In an era of increasingly patient-centered healthcare, understanding how health and illness play out in social context is vital. This volume opens a unique window on the role of play in health and wellbeing in widely varied contexts, from the work of Patch Adams as a hospital clown, to an Australian facility for dementia treatment, to a New Zealand preschool after an earthquake, to a housing complex where Irish children play near home. Across these and other featured studies, play is shown to be shaman-like in its transformative dynamics, marshaling symbolic resources to re-align how patients construe and experience illness. Even when illness is not an issue, play promotes wellbeing by its power to reimagine, invigorate, enliven and renew through sensory engagement, physical activity, and symbolism. Play levels social barriers and increases flexible response, facilitating both shared social support and creative reassessment. This book challenges assumptions that play is inefficient and unproductive, with highly relevant evidence that playful processes actually work hard to dislodge unproductive approaches and thereby aid resilience. Solid research evidence in this book charts the course and opens the agenda for taking play seriously, for the sake of health. This book was originally published as a special issue of the International Journal of Play.
