"Afghan civil society is deeply upset with disunity and detachment of Taliban groups - those who are tied to regional states agendas. This detachment has also left negative impacts on their fighting capabilities and public support. Regional states, the United States, NATO, Russia, China, Iran and Pakistan are active stakeholders who want peace on their own terms, while Taliban are not an independent entity to decide the future of Afghanistan, or outline long-term peace proposals. This has created a deep problem in finding a solution to the peace problem in Afghanistan. This book is a collection of various articles written by eminent researchers on the aspects of finding a solution to the peace prospects in troubled Afghanistan."

For 35,000 years ancient Afghanistan was called Aryana (the Light of God) has existed. Then in 747 AD what is today called Afghanistan became Khorasan (which means Sunrise in Dari) which was a much larger geographical area. In the middle of the nineteenth century the name Afghanistan, which means home of the united tribes, was applied originally by the Saxons (present day British) and the Russians. During the Great Games in the middle of nineteenth century, the Durand Line was created in 1893 and was in place until 1993. Saxons created the state of Afghanistan out of a geographical area roughly the size of Texas: in 1893 before which there were 10 million square kilometers, larger than the size of Canada, as means to act as a buffer zone between the Saxon-India & Tsarist-Russia and the Chinese.

Years after peace treaties have been signed and military conflict is nominally over, anti-personnel mines continue to claim innocent lives. This text offers data showing that landmines victimize civilians in direct contravention of the Geneva convention and examines the impact landmines have on people, on their communities and on their outlook and view of life. The report, commissioned by the VVAF, examines the consequences of landmine use on post-conflict reconstruction and development, on refugee movement and resettlement and on the environment. It also investigates mine clearance and mine awareness and medical, rehabilitative and psychological costs. Using original research, the report uses case studies from countries including Angola, Mozambique, Cambodia and the former Yugoslavia. The US-led air strikes on Afghanistan that began on 7 October 2001 are only the latest episode in a conflict that has lasted 20 years.
