Landscape Of The Soul

eBook Download

BOOK EXCERPT:

The North American church is struggling. Our society seems to be coming apart at the seams and Christianity appears on the verge of losing its voice, its leadership, and its youth. The church’s calling is to cooperate with her Creator in the repair of the world. Instead, we struggle in the loss of the simplicity of the natural images of Jesus which compel us to engage tension, dependency, and the lesson of being on the margins. Until we learn to take our cues from a world we did not build, our actions will continue to prop up a society struggling from the weight of its own ethos. Part history, part cultural dialogue, part travelogue—always in conversation with the ancient and compelling biblical vision of shalom—Landscape of the Soul will encourage you to see beyond the shells of your constructed world to those places where dynamic spiritual rhythms can still be found.

Blueprints For The Soul

eBook Download

BOOK EXCERPT:

You know that something is wrong, even if you can't quite put your finger on it. This book tells you why, and how to solve it. There is a lack of beauty and emotion in our built environment. The visual patterns in nature that instinctively satisfy us are being obliterated from our surroundings, which have become progressively monolithic and featureless. We don't question why nature matters. We implicitly understand that nature feeds us metaphorically as well as literally. Nowhere was this more evident than in the lockdowns endured during the earlier stages of the Covid pandemic, where city dwellers became ever more desperate to leave the urban sprawl and get into the green. Human beings are highly attuned to the sensory inputs of the natural environment. On the large scale, we respond to the sight of a captivating view. On the small scale, our senses can come alive at the sight of richly painted flowers, the pungent green smell of freshly cut grass or the song of a blackbird. Our response to beauty, to the right things in the right place, is part of what makes life worth living. Over the last century, a majority of the buildings we see, work in and live in have become increasingly monolithic, functional and featureless inside and out. They are anti-nature, or put another way, anti-human. The power of architecture to inspire, move and delight has been under attack for many years and for many different reasons. But emotion in architecture matters because it satisfies and encompasses the human condition and offers a glimpse into the transcendent. Emotion in architecture allow us to appreciate, aspire and connect. When our natural capacities for aesthetic appreciation are quashed, instead of feeling inspired, we feel imprisoned. Instead of feeling uplifted, we feel depressed. Instead of feeling liberated, we feel oppressed. Instead of feeling connected, we feel isolated. Bad buildings, like undiagnosed high blood pressure or type two diabetes, silently rob us of energy, health and well-being. This is not about the lofty projects that academics and critics are so keen to discuss. It's about the buildings we see every day as we go about our business, the ones we live and work in: houses and shops, offices and cafes, schools and centres. It's about the fact that so many of them are letting us down.

BRANCHES WITH GREEN LEAVES My seven year old grandson believes it’s important work to help repair trails I’ve built through rock-strewn mountain property, even asking if we can build new ones to new places...and he believes me when I tell him to hang onto branches with green leaves when he edges down a steep bank to the stream, and his eyes grow big when I tell him about the bones I found in the hollow where deer come down to drink, and when the trail back to the house gets steep, he puts his hand in mine and I know I’m safe for a little while. for Sam

Soul Journaling Saving Atlantis

eBook Download

BOOK EXCERPT:

The year is 10642 B.C. and this is to be the Master Architect's most challenging incarnation. Life in the utopian world that he lovingly created over 500 years earlier, now known as Atlantis, was beginning to unravel. The egalitarian society that he so carefully shepherded was starting to show signs of a darker ego emerging as technology and greed were developing rapidly. Something had to be done or this great society would be lost forever. For Karen, this life is one of a young new soul, eager for adventure and love. She finds this and, perhaps, more than she would have liked to have experienced. Soul Journaling is a series of books based on the past lives of the author, Karen Valiquette. For many, exploring past lives is a welcomed opportunity. For others, it would require suspending disbelief. Regardless of your beliefs, this series provides powerful and compelling stories filled with subtle lessons we can all appreciate. Remember, we are all connected.
