Sri Vishnu Sahasranamam is one of the most popular texts among the Hindus. It at once appeals to the heart and the mind of the devotee. The Sahasranamam brings out the universality of the Divine and is therefore fit to be chanted by all. This book contains original verses in Sanskrit, their transliterations and translations. The translation into English has been done by Swami Tapasyananda on the lines of Sri Shankaracharya’s commentary. The mode of presentation is just like a lexicon which at once helps a person to look out for any needed term and contemplate on it. The namavali at the end would be useful for chanting purposes. This work would be useful to anyone who would like to purify his mind by contemplating the names and their meanings. Swami Tapasyananda was a scholar-monk of great repute and one of the vice-presidents of the Ramakrishna Order.

Madhyamaka, or "Middle Way," philosophy came to Tibet from India and became the basis of all of Tibetan Buddhism. The Tibetans, however, differentiated two streams of Madhyamaka philosophy--Svatantrika and Prasangika. In this collection, leading scholars in the field address the distinction on various levels, including the philosophical import for both Indian and Tibetan Madhyamaka and the historical development of the distinction itself.

This second half of Bhishma describes the events from the beginning of the fifth day till the end of the tenth of the great battle between the Káuravas and the Pándavas. Despite grandfather Bhishma’s appeal to conclude peace with the Pándavas, Duryódhana continues the bloody battle. The key strategist is general Bhishma, commander of the Káurava forces. Even though he is compelled to fight on the side of the Káuravas, Bhishma’s sympathies are with the Pándavas. After the ninth day of war, when Bhishma has wreaked havoc with their troops, the Pándavas realise that they will be unable to win as long as invincible Bhishma is alive. Bhishma willingly reveals to them how he can be destroyed. Strictly observing the warrior code, he will never fight with Shikhándin, because he was originally born a woman. Bhishma advises the Pándava brothers that Árjuna should strike him from behind Shikhándin’s back, and they follow the grandfather’s advice.

The book titled Hidden Secrets in Vishnu Sahasranama will be useful for the researchers and the devotees Sahasranama contains thousand names of the God, in fact thousand attributes of God. Sahasra in Sanskrit is thousand and Naama is name. English word name is derived from Sanskrit naama. Though many gods of Hindus such as Vishnu, Siva, Lalitha got Sahasranamas, Vishnu Sahasranama (VS) is the oldest of all Sahasranamas. It is part of 5000-year-old Mahabharata. Moreover, Adi Shankara has written a commentary on it. Following him many scholars have written commentaries on it. The internal evidence itself shows that this is the most ancient one. Vedic gods’ names are found init. They are not used anywhere else nowadays.

The Viyahapannatti (Vyakhyaprajnapati) or Bhagavai (Bhagavati) is the fifth Anga of the Jaina Svetambara Canon. It is as the title says a Proclamation of Explanations` viz. of explanations given as a rule by Mahavira the founder of Jainism, in answer to questions raised by his disciples in most cases Goyama Indabhui. Experts have described this monumental work as an omnium gatherum, a tohu bohu etc.: its questions and answers, as a matter of fact, deal with a bewildering variety of topics, embracing all the important domains of the Jaina doctrine; moreover its teachings are presented in many different forms.

The doctrine of karman, the law of action and its results that is central to Jainism, Hinduism, and Buddhism, is uniquely formulated in Jain philosophy. Simply stated, karman is here considered to take the form of material particles, which inhere in the soul, thus causing bondage. This process and its rationale, how it occurs and how one stops it, are minutely detailed in the Jain Karma-granthas. They also describe how one rids oneself of the karmic particles already accumulated, thus attaining liberation. The Karma-granthas form the basis of the present book, the only book in English on this subject of fundamental importance.
