Winner of the 2020 Eudora Welty Prize Theorists emphasize the necessity of writing about—or witnessing—trauma in order to overcome it. To this critical conversation, Reading Testimony, Witnessing Trauma: Confronting Race, Gender, and Violence in American Literature treats reader response to traumatic and testimonial literature written by and about African American women and adds insight into the engagement of testimonial literature. Eden Wales Freedman articulates a theory of reading (or dual-witnessing) that explores how narrators and readers can witness trauma together. She places these original theories of traumatic reception in conversation with the African American literary tradition to speak to the histories, cultures, and traumas of African Americans, particularly the repercussions of slavery, as witnessed in African American literature. The volume also considers intersections of race and gender and how narrators and readers can cross such constructs to witness collectively. Reading Testimony, Witnessing Trauma’s innovative examinations of raced-gendered intersections open and speak with those works that promote dual-witnessing through the fraught (literary) histories of race and gender relations in America. To explicate how dual-witnessing converses with American literature, race theory, and gender criticism, the book analyzes emancipatory narratives by Sojourner Truth, Harriet Jacobs, and Elizabeth Keckley and novels by William Faulkner, Zora Neale Hurston, Margaret Walker, Toni Morrison, and Jesmyn Ward.

The Collected Works of Witness Lee, 1970, volume 3, contains messages given by Brother Witness Lee from October 18 through December 1970. From the middle of October until the end of the year, Brother Lee was in Hong Kong and Taiwan. The contents of this volume are divided into eight sections, as follows: 1. Twenty-four messages given in Hong Kong in October and November. These messages were edited from audio recordings together with the notes taken by Brother K. H. Weigh and were previously published in Chinese as a book entitled The Church Life in Spirit and Truthfulness. They are included in this volume under the same title. 2. Eight messages given in Hong Kong on October 18 through November 14. They were compiled and edited from audio recordings together with the notes of Brother K. H. Weigh and are included in this volume under the title The Proper Attitude When Facing Turmoils. 3. A message given in Hong Kong on an unknown date in 1970. In 1971 this message was published in Chinese with some added material by the Taiwan Gospel Book Room under the title Concerning the Person of Christ. Later, a booklet by the same title was published in English. The English edition is included in this volume. 4. A message given in Hong Kong on an unknown date in 1970. It was previously published in Chinese under the title Concerning the Triune God--the Father, the Son, and the Spirit and was later published in English under the same title. The English edition of the booklet is included in this section. 5. Seventeen messages given in Taipei and Kaohsiung, Taiwan, in November and December. The first fourteen messages were originally published in Chinese in The Ministry of the Word magazine in January through August 1971. The entire series of seventeen messages was published in Chinese and English as a book entitled Being Delivered from Religious Rituals and Walking according to the Spirit and is included in this volume under the same title. 6. Four messages given in Taichung, Taiwan, on December 9 through 11. These messages were previously published in Chinese and English under the title The Ministry of the New Covenant and the Spirit. The contents of the published book are included in this volume. 7. Fourteen messages given in Taipei and Kaohsiung, Taiwan, in December. They were originally published in Chinese in The Ministry of the Word magazine in March through December 1971 and were also published as a book entitled Taking Christ as Our Person for the Church Life. They were subsequently published in English in a book under the same title and are included in this volume. 8. Three messages given in Taipei, Taiwan, from December 3 through 5. These messages are included in this volume under the title An Explanation of a Few Truths.

The Witness of God is a constructive revision of Trinitarian missio Dei theology. In it John G. In most societies around the world, life in the twenty-first century is increasingly characterized by globalization, new media, and pluralization. Religions need to adapt in different ways in order to live amidst a plurality of religious worldviews, secularism, and interculturality. This collection of articles reflects the heartfelt conviction that in today's times, the Christian faith witness requires several points of reference. The author calls, firstly, for a contemporary intercultural hermeneutics, secondly, for a doxological theology of mission, and, thirdly, for a theology of interreligious relations.

In an age of relativism, tolerance and political correctness, the church is called to walk in the footsteps of Christ. As his witnesses, we must reject all forms of coercion and violence while simultaneously refusing to shy away from the authority and conviction that come from carrying his revelation. Dr. Ervin Budiselić examines the concept of “witnessing” in the writings of Luke, contextualizing it within the larger framework of Scripture’s emphasis on revelation and testimony. Like Judaism, Christianity is a religion of revelation, where specific content must be preserved, passed on and proclaimed to others. Dr. Budiselić explores the communal nature of this calling, as well as its pneumatological implications within Luke’s writings. Acknowledging the tendency within the Western church to emphasize moral transformation over physical, he reminds readers that Jesus’s kingdom ministry was accompanied by deeds as well as words. He specifically engages the dangers of normalizing a gospel disconnected from the supernatural or the miraculous, as partnership with the Holy Spirit was central to the calling given to the early church. This book offers a prophetic message for the church today as it seeks to fulfill its calling to faithfully witness to the revelation of Christ.

The Collected Works of Witness Lee, 1978, volume 1, contains messages given by Brother Witness Lee from January 22 through December 11, 1978. In 1978 Brother Lee spoke seventy-five messages that were published in Life-study of Genesis and Life-study of Ephesians. The Life-study messages are not included in The Collected Works of Witness Lee. From the beginning of the year until the end of April, Brother Lee ministered in Anaheim, California. From the beginning of May through the middle of May, he visited Boston, Massachusetts, after which he returned to Anaheim. Except for brief visits to the nearby cities of Costa Mesa, Irvine, and San Diego, California, he remained in Anaheim from the middle of May through the first week in August. The remaining messages included in this volume that were given after the first week in August were all spoken in Anaheim. The contents of this volume are divided into nine sections, as follows: 1. Six messages given in Anaheim, California, on January 22 through December 10. These messages are included in this volume under the title Experiencing Christ as Life and Being Constituted with the Truth for God's Building. 2. Nine messages given in Anaheim, California, on January 26 through October 19. These messages were consolidated into five chapters and are included in this volume under the title Fellowship with the Church in Anaheim. 3. Seven messages given in Anaheim, California, on March 23 through April 9. They were previously published in an eight-chapter book entitled The Exercise of the Kingdom for the Building of the Church and are included in this volume under the same title. 4. Twenty-two meetings for fellowship with the serving ones in the Living Stream Ministry office in Anaheim, California, on March 27 through December 11. Brother Lee's speaking in these meetings was informally published as nineteen individual messages under the general title Fellowship with Serving Ones. These chapters are included in this volume under the same title. 5. A message given during a time of fellowship with college students in Costa Mesa, California, on April 6. The edited message was divided into two chapters, which are included in this volume under the title Bearing the Testimony of Jesus by Living a Crucified Life in Resurrection. 6. A message given during a time of fellowship with leading brothers in Orange County, California, on April 15. This message is included in this volume under the title The Lord's Recovery of His Testimony. 7. Five messages given in Anaheim, California, on April 16 through May 21. These messages were previously published in a book entitled Basic Training and are included in this volume under the same title. 8. Twenty-three messages given in Boston, Massachusetts, and Anaheim, California, on May 1 through June 25. These messages were previously published in a book entitled The Experience of Christ and are included in this volume under the same title. 9. Twenty-three messages given in Boston, Massachusetts, on May 1 through 12. They were consolidated into nineteen chapters and are included in this volume under the title The Present Need among the Churches in the Lord's Recovery.

Christian ethics is less a system of principles, rules, or even virtues, and more of a free and open-ended responsible witness to God's gracious action to be with and for others and the world. Postmodernity has left us with the risky uncertainty of knowing and doing the good. It also leaves us with the global risks of political violence and terrorism, economic globalization and financial crisis, and environmental destruction and global climate change. How should Christians respond to these problems? This book creatively explores how Christian ethics is best understood as a witness to God's action, thereby providing the ethical framework for addressing the various problematic social issues that put our world at risk. Haddorff develops the notion of witness through a detailed study of Karl Barth's theological ethics. Barth, he argues, provides a language enabling us to know what a Christian ethics of witness actually looks like in both theory and in practice. In correspondence to God's gracious action, Christians remain free to think and act in faith, hope, and love in respondence to their unique circumstances, even in a world at risk. In their witness, Christians remain confident that God has not abandoned the world but loves and cares for its future.

A follow up to the 2020 volume "Feminist Trauma Theologies", "Bearing Witness" explores further into global, intersectional, and as yet relatively unexplored perspectives. With a particular focus on poverty, gender and sexualities, race and ethnicity, and health in dialogue with trauma theology the book seeks to demonstrate both the far reaching and intersectional nature of trauma, encouraging creative and ground-breaking theological reflections on trauma and constructions of theology in the light of the trauma experience. A unique set of insights into the real-life experience of trauma, the book includes chapters authored by a diverse group of academic theologians, practitioners and activists.
