ACNS ´ 2009 was organized by the Ecole Normale Sup´ erieure (ENS), the French - tional Center for Scienti?c Research (CNRS), and the French National Institute for Researchin Computer Science andControl(INRIA), in cooperationwith the InternationalAssociation for CryptologicResearch(IACR). The General Chairs of the conference were Pierre-Alain Fouque and Damien Vergnaud. Theconferencereceived150submissionsandeachsubmissionwasassignedto at least three committee members. Submissions co-authored by members of the Program Committee were assigned to at least four committee members. Due to thelargenumber ofhigh-qualitysubmissions,thereviewprocesswaschallenging andwearedeeplygratefulto the committeemembersandthe externalreviewers for their outstanding work. After meticulous deliberation, the Program C- mittee, which was chaired by Michel Abdalla and David Pointcheval, selected 32 submissions for presentation in the academic track and these are the articles that are included in this volume. Additionally, a few other submissions were selected for presentation in the non-archival industrial track. The best student paper was awarded to Ayman Jarrous for his paper “Secure Hamming Distance Based Computation and Its Applications,” co-authoredwith Benny Pinkas. The review process was run using the iChair software, written by Thomas Baigneres and Matthieu Finiasz from EPFL, LASEC, Switzerland and we are indebted to them for letting us use their software. The programalso included four invited talks in addition to the academicand industrial tracks.

Descartes made a sharp distinction between matter and mind. But he also thought that the two interact with one another. Is such interaction possible, however, without either a materialist reduction of mind to matter or an idealist (phenomenalist) reduction of matter to mind? These questions overshadow the Western tradition in metaphysics from the time of Descartes to present times. The book makes an effort to stay clear of reductivist views of the two Cartesian substances. It defends a dualistic psycho-physical parallel theory which reconciles freedom of action with determinism in nature. Basic problems in perception theory are also discussed, with special emphasis on hearing and sound. Because of the intrinsic interest of the subject and the author's non-technical presentation of it, the book should appeal to all readers with a serious interest in philosophy and psychology.

The 6-volume set, comprising the LNCS books 12535 until 12540, constitutes the refereed proceedings of 28 out of the 45 workshops held at the 16th European Conference on Computer Vision, ECCV 2020. The conference was planned to take place in Glasgow, UK, during August 23-28, 2020, but changed to a virtual format due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The 249 full papers, 18 short papers, and 21 further contributions included in the workshop proceedings were carefully reviewed and selected from a total of 467 submissions. The papers deal with diverse computer vision topics. Part III includes the Advances in Image Manipulation Workshop and Challenges.

In recent years we have witnessed the explosion of multimedia traffic on the Internet. The availability of high bandwidth connections together with the recent advances in high quality video and audio compression techniques have created a fertile ground for the growth of multimedia applications such as interactive video on demand, collaborative distance learning, and remote medical diagnosis. Furthermore, the availability of low bit rate video and audio applications (e.g., H.263 and G.728) and the proliferation of pervasive devices create a new demand for wireless multimedia communication systems. After a decade or more of research and development in multimedia networking, the research community has learned a number of lessons. First, increasing the capacity of the “best effort” networks and services does not provide an effective and permanent solution for offering a guaranteed Quality of Service (QoS). Second, the integration of service and network management is a key element in providing end to end service management. Third, management techniques for Internet multimedia services must be scalable and adaptive to guarantee QoS and maintain fairness with optimal network resource.

This book examines the forms and practices of Irish confinement from the 19th century to present-day to explore the social and political failings of 20th and 21st century postcolonial Ireland. Building on an interdisciplinary conference held in the Crumlin Road Gaol, Belfast, the methodological approaches adopted across this book range from the historical and archival to the sociological, political, and literary. This edited collection touches on topics such as industrial schools, Magdalen laundries, struggles and resistance in prisons both North and South, Direct Provision, and the ways in which prison experiences have been represented in literature, cinema, and the arts. It sketches out an uncomfortable picture of the techniques for policing bodies deployed in Ireland for over a century. This innovative study seeks to establish a link between Ireland’s inhumane treatment of women and children, of prisoners, and of asylum seekers today, and to expose and pinpoint modes of resistance to these situations.

An Introduction to Network Simulator NS2 is a beginners’ guide for network simulator NS2, an open-source discrete event simulator designed mainly for networking research. NS2 has been widely accepted as a reliable simulation tool for computer communication networks both in academia and industry. This book will present two fundamental NS2 concepts:i) how objects (e.g., nodes, links, queues, etc.) are assembled to create a network and ii) how a packet flows from one object to another. Based on these concepts, this book will demonstrate through examples how new modules can be incorporated into NS2. The book will: -Give an overview on simulation and communication networks. -Provide general information (e.g., installation, key features, etc.) about NS2. -Demonstrate how to set up a simple network simulation scenario using Tcl scripting lanuage. -Explain how C++ and OTcl (Object oriented Tcl) are linked, and constitute NS2. -Show how Ns2 interprets a Tcl Script and executes it. -Suggest post simulation processing approaches and identify their pros and cons. -Present a number of NS2 extension examples. -Discuss how to incorporate MATLAB into NS2.
