Christ And The Spirit

eBook Download

BOOK EXCERPT:

This is a study of Spirit-Christology--a contemporary theological model of the relationship between Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit. Del Colle measures this christological model against trinitarian theology and tests its viability. He investigates in particular the development of a Roman Catholic Spirit-Christology, which has arisen from within the modern neo-scholastic theological tradition. Contrary to other interpreters, Del Colle argues that an incarnational christology and a Spirit-Christology are not conflicting but complementary and that this is recognized by the older and deeper tradition. In conclusion, he seeks to demonstrate the productivity of the Spirit-Christological model in reference to three major areas of concern for contemporary systematic theology: cultural pluralism and diversity, emancipation and social praxis, and inter-religious dialogue.

BOOK EXCERPT:

Already hailed as a landmark in contemporary Catholic theology, Jesus Symbol of God surveys scriptural data, the key moments in the development of doctrine, and the distinctive horizons of our contemporary world to develop a comprehensive and systematic christology for our time. The task of christology is to explain what it means to say that Jesus is the bearer and revealer of God in the Christian community, the decisive mediation of God's salvation -- or, in other words, the symbol of God.

Absolute Faith In Jesus Christ

eBook Download

BOOK EXCERPT:

ABOUT THE BOOK This book had to be written to clear up many myths about Christianity today. The author's inspirational and scholarly approach to the state of religion, both from a modern perspective as well as from an historical outlook, is timely. The author closely documents the divine glory and guidance of the Bible. He laid emphasis on both the letter and the spirit of the Holy Bible, and opens for all readers some of the main themes of Biblical teaching, while revealing and clarifying many of the ancient stories and truths. Within the worldly context, the author writes in detail the hidden power and supremacy of Jesus Christ above all other religious founders. He was inspired to write by his observance that many people were no longer experiencing unchallengeable power that is vested in Christ and lead the reader to the source. This volume is perhaps the doorway through which true believers may pass on their way to a richer, more fulfilling religious life. It will strengthen and enrich our faith. ABOUT THE AUTHOR John's life is synonymous to that of the Apostle Paul in the Holy Bible, who was a very religious Jew until he met Christ. John grew up in a Pentecostal church where their worship-style is Judaic in nature. When Christ called him to be a minister, he began his lifelong fight of faith against Satan and the false ministers in Satan's grasp throughout the world. He is the founder and president of the Absolute Faith(R) In Jesus Christ Ministries. He was inaugurated to the office of Bishop on July 19, 2009. His ministries and messages have helped thousands of lives to obtain salvation and holistic freedom. While he was born in Nigeria, he now lives with his wife and children in United States of America.

How To Read T F Torrance

eBook Download

BOOK EXCERPT:

Thomas F. Torrance is regarded as one of the foremost Reformed theologians of the second half of the twentieth century. He taught for thirty years at New College, University of Edinburgh, Scotland, until his retirement in 1979. He has written extensively, contributing more than twenty major works of theology and hundreds of articles in a variety of languages. In this book Elmer Coyler provides access to Torrance's voluminous writings. Demonstrating the profoundly trinitarian and evangelical spirit of Torrance's theology, Coyler also captures his concern to formulate a renewed theological method in the tradition of Athanasius. Coyler helps us see how, in Torrance's view and practice, a truly scientific approach must be godly in order to be accurate and faithful.

Disruptive Grace

eBook Download

BOOK EXCERPT:

Among the studies of Karl Barth's thought, no other work covers, as this one does, the areas of political, doctrinal, and ecumenical theology in single compass. Written by a leading Barth scholar, Disruptive Grace is unique not only for its range of study, depth of insight, and accuracy of presentation, but also for the way it displays the heart as well as the mind of the great Swiss pastor and theologian. Each of the book's three main sections consists of five major essays. Part 1 relates Barth to contemporary issues of social justice, war, and peace. Part 2 covers christology, pneumatology, the Trinity, scriptural interpretation, and the question of universal salvation. Part 3 discusses the Reformed tradition as Barth understood it in relation to Roman Catholicism, Lutheranism, modern liberalism, evangelical conservatism, and the postliberal theology of the contemporary Yale school. The book concludes with a meditation on the saving significance of Christ's death, a theme that runs throughout the book. The result of more than twenty-five years of intensive Barth research, this volume provides scholars, teachers, and students with a thorough discussion of the twentieth century's most significant Christian thinker.

The Spirit At The Cross

eBook Download

BOOK EXCERPT:

What was the Holy Spirit doing at the cross of Jesus Christ? Jesus' death and resurrection are central to God's reconciliation with humanity. Does the Holy Spirit's work pause between Gethsemane and the resurrection? What does the phrase ""through the eternal Spirit"" in Hebrews 9:14 mean? In this book, Tan examines the perspectives of John Vernon Taylor, Jurgen Moltmann, and John D. Zizioulas, from whom three views of the Spirit's role at the cross are discerned: the Spirit as the ""bond of love"" between the Father and the Son; the Spirit as the Son's coworker, enabler, and power; and the Spirit as the unifier who unites humanity to the Son. In addition, Karl Barth provides the intriguing concept of the Spirit as divine Judge (along with the Father and the Son) and specifically the one who carries out God's judgment in Jesus Christ, the Elect. Integrating these theological perspectives with an in-depth examination of the manuscript and exegetical and hermeneutical history of Hebrews 9:14, Tan offers another way of understanding the role of the Spirit at the cross: Christ as the Father's ""pneumatic crucible"" in whom sinful humanity is judged, destroyed, and reborn through the power of the Holy Spirit.
