BOOK EXCERPT:

A Time Between: Tales of the Devoted Ones takes the reader to the beginning of the world and a people who came from the children of the first man. These people were able to keep great records of their tales and memories that survived many great perils and opposition. These tales began with the founding of the Devoted people and the persecutions that led to their banishment from the kípos (garden) by others envious of their great faith. The first leadership of the Devoted Ones was struck down by the Creator for being greedy and misusing of their station. The Creator then chose Tragon to be the new ruler of the Devoted Ones, with a promise that only those from his line would rule the kingdom as long as they were faithful to the Creator. These tales will focus on the rule of the six true rulers of the Devoted people and how their faiths in the Creator led to their protection and success, though there would be problems caused by some of these rulers when they went to their own desires. The kingdom would then be wrecked and confused by those from Tragon’s line who were not called by the Creator to rule, turning the Devoted Ones into a condition that the Creator never wanted them to be in. The Devoted Ones were different from the other peoples of the earth because of their faith in the Creator, but no longer was there any from Tragon’s line to serve the Creator faithfully in their station. The last rulers conformed their people to the ways of all others in evil imagination. The Creator tried to get the people to change, but they would not have Him anymore. He was forced to show His hand against the evils that lived on the world.

BOOK EXCERPT:

About the Book A mystifying occurrence takes place between the death and dying of Charlotta Aims. Her body is discovered in her brand-new Mercedes found parked in an alley, posed with a red rose, and her beautiful face has been made hideous with layers of gelatinous makeup. Her body is wrapped in a wedding gown, and missing the little finger on her right hand. How she died, why her body was defiled, and how she ended up in a bad part of town is unknown. Barry Gunther is an ugly, little man with a persona warped by a troubled childhood. He engages in morbid hobbies, including one he calls ‘Flesh Painting,’ a hobby that has nothing to do with body art, but everything to do with immortal preservation. The investigation leads detectives to a mortuary where they must stay alert to stay alive. Together they make gruesome discoveries, and they all point to Barry Gunther as the killer. So, too, does the forensic evidence, except for one set of unidentified footprints. Still, Detective Sorensen is confident he has his man until he receives a phone call from the victim’s psychic aunt who lives in Sweden thousands of miles away. She reports a dream that unsettles the lead detective and casts doubt on his conviction. Added to this mix of intrigue is a jealous husband, a spurned high school jock, a not-so-feminine housekeeper, and three employees of an exclusive car dealership. Time Between will leave readers guessing until the very last page. About the Author Lucas Patt lives in Nebraska. Cultural Perspectives On Aging

eBook Download

BOOK EXCERPT:

Current demographic developments and change due to long life expectancies, low birth rates, changing family structures, and economic and political crises causing migration and flight are having a significant impact on intergenerational relationships, the social welfare system, the job market and what elderly people (can) expect from their retirement and environment. The socio-political relevance of the categories of ‘age’ and ‘ageing’ have been increasing and gaining much attention within different scholarly fields. However, none of the efforts to identify age-related diseases or the processes of ageing in order to develop suitable strategies for prevention and therapy have had any effect on the fact that attitudes against the elderly are based on patterns that are determined by parameters that or not biological or sociological: age(ing) is also a cultural fact. This book reveals the importance of cultural factors in order to build a framework for analyzing and understanding cultural constructions of ageing, bringing together scholarly discourses from the arts and humanities as well as social, medical and psychological fields of study. The contributions pave the way for new strategies of caring for elderly people.
