BOOK EXCERPT:
The value Limited Entry and Individual quota of the different crab species and fish species represented to the participant in the fisheries in Alaska, including both Processing Permits achieved by the Vedoys, was a motive that triggered malicious acts by accountant, bankers, attorneys and different people who got involved with the Vedoys. This report is also directed towards the Supreme Court of the United States, to make it aware of how some attorneys conduct themselves when representing the law of United States when only attorneys are allowed to submit "facts" to the Judge when companies are involved. Attorneys with no concern for justice, conspire to fabricate an outcome of a dispute, because they are aware that if their client submits evidence to the Judge, this evidence is not to be taken into account by the Judge anyway.

BOOK EXCERPT:
African-American Males and the US Justice System of Marginalization provides an overview of the economic and social status of African-American males in America, which continues to deteriorate at an alarming rate. Weatherspoon posits that in every American institutional system, from birth to death, the journey of African-American males to achieve racial justice and equity in this country is ignored, marginalized, and exploited. The American justice system, in particular, has permitted and in some cases sanctioned the marginalization of African-American males as full citizens. Weatherspoon examines the idea that African-American males are disproportionately represented in every aspect of the criminal justice system, and that the marginalization of African-American males in America has a long and treacherous history that continues to negatively impact their economic, political, and social status.

BOOK EXCERPT:
Every business day, courts throughout the United States render decisions that together affect many thousands of people. Some affect only the parties to a particular legal action, but others adjudicate rights, benefits, and legal principles that have an impact on all Americans. This book surveys that system. Much of the discussion explains how U.S. courts are organized and how they work. This introduction seeks to familiarize readers with the basic structure and vocabulary of American law, and afford a sense of how the U.S. legal system has evolved to meet the needs of a growing nation and its ever more complex economic and social realities.

BOOK EXCERPT:
International Law in the U.S. Legal System provides a wide-ranging overview of how international law intersects with the domestic legal system of the United States, and points out various unresolved issues and areas of controversy. Curtis Bradley explains the structure of the U.S. legal system and the various separation of powers and federalism considerations implicated by this structure, especially as these considerations relate to the conduct of foreign affairs. Against this backdrop, he covers all of the principal forms of international law: treaties, executive agreements, decisions and orders of international institutions, customary international law, and jus cogens norms. He also explores a number of issues that are implicated by the intersection of U.S. law and international law, such as treaty withdrawal, foreign sovereign immunity, international human rights litigation, war powers, extradition, and extraterritoriality. This book highlights recent decisions and events relating to the topic, including various actions taken during the Trump administration, while also taking into account relevant historical materials, including materials relating to the U.S. Constitutional founding. Written by one of the most cited international law scholars in the United States, the book is a resource for lawyers, law students, legal scholars, and judges from around the world.

BOOK EXCERPT:
A New Juvenile Justice System aims at nothing less than a complete reform of the existing system: not minor change or even significant overhaul, but the replacement of the existing system with a different vision. The authors in this volume—academics, activists, researchers, and those who serve in the existing system—all respond in this collection to the question of what the system should be. Uniformly, they agree that an ideal system should be centered around the principle of child well-being and the goal of helping kids to achieve productive lives as citizens and members of their communities. Rather than the existing system, with its punitive, destructive, undermining effect and uneven application by race and gender, these authors envision a system responsive to the needs of youth as well as to the community’s legitimate need for public safety. How, they ask, can the ideals of equality, freedom, liberty, and self-determination transform the system? How can we improve the odds that children who have been labeled as “delinquent” can make successful transitions to adulthood? And how can we create a system that relies on proven, family-focused interventions and creates opportunities for positive youth development? Drawing upon interdisciplinary work as well as on-the-ground programs and experience, the authors sketch out the broad parameters of such a system. Providing the principles, goals, and concrete means to achieve them, this volume imagines using our resources wisely and well to invest in all children and their potential to contribute and thrive in our society.

BOOK EXCERPT:
""The U.S. Court 101"" offers a comprehensive guide to the American justice system, demystifying its complex machinery for a general audience. This illuminating book explores three key areas: the structure of the U.S. court system, the roles of court personnel, and the journey of cases through the judicial process. By tracing the evolution of American jurisprudence from its English common law roots to landmark cases like Marbury v. Madison, the book provides essential historical context for understanding modern courts. The book's central argument is that an informed citizenry is crucial for the proper functioning of the judicial branch. It progresses logically, starting with an introduction to federal and state court systems, then delving into the roles of judges, lawyers, and other court officials, before walking readers through the life cycle of criminal and civil cases. What sets this book apart is its use of real-world examples and hypothetical scenarios to illustrate abstract legal concepts, making it engaging and relatable. Written in an accessible style that balances academic rigor with conversational tone, ""The U.S. Court 101"" serves as an invaluable resource for students, journalists, and civic-minded citizens seeking to understand the backbone of American justice. By addressing current controversies and encouraging critical examination of the modern judiciary, it empowers readers to become more informed and engaged participants in the democratic process.
