Entrepreneurship Trajectories

eBook Download

BOOK EXCERPT:

Entrepreneurship Trajectories: Entrepreneurial Opportunities, Business Models, and Firm Performance explores several entrepreneurship trajectories recognized by economists and entrepreneurs. It is not possible to talk about growth paths addressed by entrepreneurial ventures without recalling the business model and the type of entrepreneurial opportunity at their foundations. Diego Matricano assumes that the growth paths addressed by entrepreneurial ventures depend on both effective business models and promising opportunities. This pragmatic guide illuminates the entrepreneurial trajectories linking opportunities, business models, and growth paths, offering complete and nuanced views through its extensive use of case studies. - Defines both theoretically and empirically the entrepreneurship trajectories that entrepreneurs can address - Provides cases and data about ongoing startups from official websites such as Global Entrepreneurship Monitor, US Census Bureau, and Eurostat - Describes a comprehensive view of entrepreneurship trajectories that link entrepreneurial opportunities, business models, and growth paths

Smart Trajectories

eBook Download

BOOK EXCERPT:

This book highlights the developments, discoveries, and practical and advanced experiences related to responsive distributed computing and how it can support the deployment of trajectory-based applications in smart systems. Smart Trajectories: Metamodeling, Reactive Architecture for Analytics and Smart Applications deals with the representation and manipulation of smart trajectories in various applications and scenarios. Presented in three parts, the book first discusses the foundation and principles for spatial information systems, complex event processing, and building a reactive architecture. Next, the book discusses modeling and architecture in relation to smart trajectory metamodeling, mining and big trajectory data, and clustering trajectories. The final section discusses advanced applications and trends in the field, including congestion trajectory analytics and real-time Big Data analytics in cloud ecosystems. Metamodeling, distributed architectures, reactive programming, Big Data analytics, NoSQL databases, connected objects, and edge-fog-cloud computing form the basis of the concepts and applications discussed. The book also presents a number of case studies to demonstrate smart trajectories related to spatiotemporal events such as traffic congestion and pedestrian accidents. This book is intended for graduate students in computer engineering, spatial databases, complex event processing, distributed systems, and geographical information systems (GIS). The book will also be useful for practicing traffic engineers, city managers, and environmental engineers interested in monitoring and security analysis.

Criminal Trajectories

eBook Download

BOOK EXCERPT:

Winner, 2020 DLC Outstanding Contribution Award, given by the American Society of Criminology An exploration of criminal trajectories, placing them in a developmental context Over the past several years, notions of developmental trajectories—particularly criminal trajectories—have taken hold as important areas of investigation for researchers interested in the longitudinal study of crime. This accessible volume presents the first full-length overview of criminal trajectories as a concept and methodology and makes the case for a developmental approach to the topic. The volume shows how a developmental perspective is important from a practical standpoint, helping to inform the design of prevention and early intervention programs to forestall the onset of antisocial and criminal activity, particularly when it begins in childhood. Crime in this view does not suit a one-size-fits-all model. There are different types of criminals who develop as the result of different types of developmental factors and experiences. By considering what risk factors may set the stage for later crimes in certain circumstances, the authors argue that we may be able to intervene at any point along the life course and, if addressed early enough, prevent criminal behavior from taking root. Criminal Trajectories offers a comprehensive synthesis of the findings from numerous criminal trajectory studies, presented through a multi-disciplinary lens. It addresses the policy and practice implications of these findings for the criminal justice system—including a critique of current sentencing and incarceration practices—and presents twelve recommendations informed by developmental frameworks for future work.

Computing With Spatial Trajectories

eBook Download

BOOK EXCERPT:

Spatial trajectories have been bringing the unprecedented wealth to a variety of research communities. A spatial trajectory records the paths of a variety of moving objects, such as people who log their travel routes with GPS trajectories. The field of moving objects related research has become extremely active within the last few years, especially with all major database and data mining conferences and journals. Computing with Spatial Trajectories introduces the algorithms, technologies, and systems used to process, manage and understand existing spatial trajectories for different applications. This book also presents an overview on both fundamentals and the state-of-the-art research inspired by spatial trajectory data, as well as a special focus on trajectory pattern mining, spatio-temporal data mining and location-based social networks. Each chapter provides readers with a tutorial-style introduction to one important aspect of location trajectory computing, case studies and many valuable references to other relevant research work. Computing with Spatial Trajectories is designed as a reference or secondary text book for advanced-level students and researchers mainly focused on computer science and geography. Professionals working on spatial trajectory computing will also find this book very useful.

Mobility Mining In Moving Object Trajectories

eBook Download

BOOK EXCERPT:

Spatial and temporal properties are key aspects of many data analysis problems in business, government, and science. GPS technology is quickly enabling a number of new applications, including tracking fleets of vehicles, navigating boats and ships, pedestrian's tracking and tracking of wildlife. Another popular application of this technology is in cellular phones with embedded GPS sensors for vehicle and pedestrian's tracking. Through the availability of cheap sensor devices, we have witnessed an exponential growth of geo-tagged data in the last few years resulting in the availability of fine-grained spatial data at small temporal sampling intervals. Therefore, the actual challenge in spatio-temporal analysis is moving from acquiring the right data towards large-scale analysis of the available data. As this multidimensional data add more complexities in storing, indexing and querying, efficient methodologies have to be derived to manage these data using existing data base technology.
