The Mentawai Megathrust area, West Sumatra, is one area that has a reasonably high earthquake activity with a significant enough potential strength and has the potential to trigger a large tsunami disaster, thus endangering the sustainability of human life and the environment in threatened areas, especially in cities on the west coast of Sumatra Island, including Pariaman City. Geographically, Pariaman City is directly opposite the Mentawai megathrust area, so that in position, Pariaman City is very threatened by the earthquake and tsunami disaster caused if there is a release of energy in the Mentawai megathrust area. It will directly affect the sustainability of human life and the environment and the existence of Pariaman City as a city that continues to promote coastal tourism in West Sumatra.The book entitled: PARIAMAN CITY

Poverty is a social problem that has never been discussed. Both in terms of the poverty rate, the impact it causes, the factors that cause it, to the alternatives to overcome it. The phenomenon of poverty is related to various dimensions of life, so that the problem of poverty becomes very complex. The problem of poverty requires multisectoral handling, it cannot be resolved only from one sector but requires a collaborative approach from various sectors in government as well as with the private sector and the community. Because poverty does not only concern the economic, education, health, infrastructure, but also social, cultural and even political issues. So that a multidimensional policy is needed with a coping strategy that involves many parties in an integrated manner. In fact, the government has made various efforts to reduce poverty, both at the national level and for districts and cities. Some of these efforts include opening job opportunities, providing direct assistance in the form of materials to the poor, as well as community empowerment as a preventive measure taken in order to develop community competencies and skills. Therefore, poverty reduction remains a focus in development and is a shared responsibility, not only the central government and local governments, but contributions and collaboration from various parties are needed. In the direction of a new life order, poverty reduction becomes a crucial topic to be addressed. The National Seminar on "Community Empowerment and Poverty Reduction Strategies" is a momentum to bring together various critical views and thoughts from various fields of science related to strategies that can be carried out in reducing poverty. It is hoped that this national seminar will produce an appropriate strategy in accelerating poverty reduction in Indonesia in general and in Bali in particular.

The 2nd Annual Conference of the International Conference of Geography (ICGEO) was held on November 19, 2022, with the theme "Discovering New Geography Trends." The conference was organized by the Department of Geography, Faculty of Social Sciences, Universitas Negeri Padang in West Sumatra, Indonesia. The conference utilized a combination of virtual and offline methods. The conference covered various topics, including advancements in geomorphology, meteorology, climatology, hydrology, historical geography, transport geography, industrial geography, rural settlement geography, and the ecology of agricultural systems. Additionally, the significance of geography in area studies was discussed. The conference commenced by examining the progress made in the field of geography. Subsequently, it explored diverse aspects of urban geography, the role of geography in physical and economic planning, studies on rural areas, and geographical research concerning local government. This monograph will be valuable for geography teachers, students, and practitioners.

Covid-19, disastrous series of earthquakes in Türkiye and Syria... How well prepared are young people to understand such catastrophic events and their impact upon societies? Since the beginning of recorded human history, pandemics and natural disasters have highly impacted the historical narratives of mankind. Each time, they remind humans how fragile they are and how limited their knowledge is. Despite their impact, these events are given little attention in history education. The first thematic report of the Observatory on History Teaching in Europe (OHTE) analyses how pandemics and natural disasters are taught across different levels of education. It gives a detailed overview of the teaching of the two topics in OHTE’s 16 member states, along with a cross country analysis – combining information provided by educational authorities and by history teachers themselves. The report refers to important areas of concern such as the inclusion of pandemics and natural disasters in history curricula, teachers’ pedagogical decisions about their teaching, multiperspectival approaches but also the use of scapegoating during these times of crises. The observatory’s mission is to provide a clear picture of the state of history teaching in Europe. Within the countries that are party to the observatory, this is done through OHTE reports on the state of history teaching and thematic reports, which explore particular areas of interest and how they are handled in history lessons. The observatory’s vision is embodied by its motto: “Teaching history, grounding democracy”. In practice, this means that it promotes quality history education in order to improve the understanding of democratic culture among young people. The Observatory on History Teaching in Europe is a Council of Europe enlarged partial agreement.
