This ambitious work chronicles 250 years of the Cromartie family genealogical history. Included in the index of nearly fifty thousand names are the current generations, and all of those preceding, which trace ancestry to our family patriarch, William Cromartie, who was born in 1731 in Orkney, Scotland, and his second wife, Ruhamah Doane, who was born in 1745. Arriving in America in 1758, William Cromartie settled and developed a plantation on South River, a tributary of the Cape Fear near Wilmington, North Carolina. On April 2, 1766, William married Ruhamah Doane, a fifth-generation descendant of a Mayflower passenger to Plymouth, Stephen Hopkins. If Cromartie is your last name or that of one of your blood relatives, it is almost certain that you can trace your ancestry to one of the thirteen children of William Cromartie , his first wife, and Ruhamah Doane, who became the founding ancestors of our Cromartie family in America: William Jr., James, Thankful, Elizabeth, Hannah Ruhamah, Alexander, John, Margaret Nancy, Mary, Catherine, Jean, Peter Patrick, and Ann E. Cromartie. This is the definitive work on Americans taken prisoner during the Revolutionary War. The bulk of the book is devoted to personal accounts, many of them moving, of the conditions endured by U.S. prisoners at the hands of the British, as preserved in journals or diaries kept by physicians, ships' captains, and the prisoners themselves. Of greater genealogical interest is the alphabetical list of 8,000 men who were imprisoned on the British vessel The Old Jersey, which the author copied from the papers of the British War Department and incorporated in the appendix to the work. Also included is a Muster Roll of Captain Abraham Shepherd's Company of Virginia Riflemen and a section on soldiers of the Pennsylvania Flying Camp who perished in prison, 1776-1777.

"Railroad Builders: The Dunavant Family of Virginia, North Carolina and Tennessee" introduced Henry Jackson "Jack" Dunavant (1875-1928) and described many of the large-scale construction projects he completed in North Carolina and throughout the South. (Charlotte's Dunavant Street was named in his honor.) It also introduced his wife, Louise Wert Dunavant (1886-1967), and described how she supervised the initial construction of Charlotte's Carolina Golf Club and successfully launched that project during the Great Depression. This supplemental e-book introduced their immediate family and related families, and this latest edition also recalls how the Henkel - Dunavants of Statesville helped to develop the beautiful mountain town of Blowing Rock. This two-volume work received both a History Book Award and a Family History Book Award from the North Carolina Society of Historians in 2015.

From its establishment in 1745, Augusta County, Virginia served as a haven for Scotch-Irish, German, and, to a lesser extent, English immigrants who failed to find economic opportunity or religious freedom in the colonial settlements along the Middle Atlantic coastline. This little known but important work contains detailed genealogies of the twenty families mentioned in the title of the work, who settled in that region of "old western Augusta" that today encompasses Bath and Highland counties, Virginia. In addition to the family histories, the compiler has provided introductory chapters on the history of German and Scotch-Irish settlement to the region; a table of family members who fought in the Colonial, Revolutionary, and Civil Wars, and a full name index with approximately 10,000 entries.

John McNaul (CA.1758-1827) married Sarah Ferguson about 1784, and in 1793 the family immigrated from Scotland to Philadelphia, settling in Chester County, Pennsylvania. They later moved to Northumberland (now Centre) County, Pennsylvania. Descendants and relatives lived in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Ohio, Illinois, Wisconsin, Iowa, Missouri, Colorado, Washington and elsewhere.
