BOOK EXCERPT:
What if I told you that you were only one step away from unlocking new levels of maturity and growth in your church? The myth of the silver bullet still exists because we desperately want it to. We all prefer quick fixes and bandage solutions to the long, hard, slow work that produces real change. So the moment we learn about a new ministry or strategy and see its effect in another church, we run to implement it in our own. Unfortunately, this impulse is usually met by opposition, skepticism, and ultimately, rejection. What if the solution isn't a new model or a complicated strategy, but a shift in perspective? What if you could keep your church's current vision, values, and model, and simply make a few micro-shifts...leading to macro-changes? This book explores five micro-shifts that have the potential to produce macro-changes in your church. As you read, you will discover how to integrate these micro-shifts into the life of your church, starting with the way you disciple. You will finish by developing a plan to structure, communicate, and evaluate these changes to ensure that they take root and pave the way for lasting change and kingdom impact.

BOOK EXCERPT:
While books and articles on leadership abound, most of them are written by "successful" men who look at the world through the lens of a Western business model. The standard for success is based on the bottom line--financial growth in both the personal and corporate realms. This perspective has infected Christian leadership literature as well. In Leadership Reconsidered, Ruth A. Tucker calls for a revised definition--one that abandons the love of power and success for the eternal value of legacy. She challenges the assumption that a leader must by definition have followers, be an extrovert, crave recognition, and dominate others. Instead, legacy encompasses the values of behind-the-scenes influence that are available to everyone and last beyond the grave. This unique and refreshing perspective on leadership is accessible and engaging and will make an impact on anyone who takes it to heart.

BOOK EXCERPT:
Making the presence of God known in the world goes to the very heart of the church's purpose. Yet it is a formidable challenge. How can the church make the presence and glory of God a reality in a world that both denies God and hates the church? By the church bearing the image of Jesus Christ in the world through word and deed for, as the unknown author of Hebrews declares, Jesus is the radiance of God's glory and the exact representation of His being (Hebrews 1:3). It is not the primary purpose of the church to specialize in economic, social, or political issues but rather to proclaim the good news of what God has accomplished in and through Jesus Christ. When the church quits proclaiming Christ, to proclaim a message of love, acceptance, tolerance, and affirmation, then it ceases to effectively fulfill its purpose and loses its relevancy. Christ came into the world to proclaim the Gospel in the marketplace, and He did so while never surrendering His identity or sacrificing His purpose for the sake of relevancy. He expects his church in every age to do likewise. The greatest need in the church today is exactly what the early church needed in the first century. In a church that is infected with a spiritual apathy, has forsaken her first love, has compromised truth, and is lukewarm, a new vision of the risen and glorified Christ dwelling in her midst is needed. The only method God designed to lead the church to recover the awareness of Christ's presence is prayer and preaching that focuses on Jesus Christ. Thus, "if the church is to flourish again, there is no greater need than a recovery of faithful, powerful, biblical preaching" whose subject is Christ and the new birth.

BOOK EXCERPT:
How does God relate to us, what does He want from us, and how do we relate to God? Those questions and many more are woven throughout the many books of the Bible in the form of histories, parables, poetry, stories, and theological discourse. John M Masciale draws on his expertise writing software to pore through the intricacies of the Bible in The Lord Project. Using computer search algorithms, the author ties together the threads of the Bible on a variety of themes, searching for significant words around the phrase the Lord as well as the significant words surrounding Father, Jesus, Christ, and Spirit. Much more than a topical Bible or a concordance, this book compiles verses about God’s nature and other essential themes. Chapters are organized topically, so you can focus on the subjects you care about the most. No matter what your education level or profession, if you are a student of the Bible, want to understand its teachings, and move closer to the Lord, this book will help you achieve your goals.

BOOK EXCERPT:
First Corinthians is one of the most relevant NT documents for both younger churches seeking maturity in the majority world and older churches seeking renewal in the Western world in the twenty-first century. The reason this epistle is so relevant is that it focuses on renewing the church through believing and living out the good news that because of Jesus’s death and resurrection God has begun his new creation agenda amid the broken world of today. This is not just another commentary (there are many very good ones) but rather we present a biblical theology of church renewal, based on solid exegesis, and our experience as teachers and pastors in both Africa and North America. This book will pull out the essential teaching of Paul on renewal in ten manageable principles, or “great ideas.” Church renewal is not just following certain steps but results from nurturing a culture that practices both cross power and a life of new creation hope. When churches make the shift from traditionalism to radical community and evangelical activism through a new experience of the gospel seen as both personal liberation and the transformation of all things, the church begins to move, and the world begins to change.

BOOK EXCERPT:
In The High Church Revival in the Church of England, new insights are opened up into one of the most significant movements of devotional and liturgical revival in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. Attending closely to the social history of the movement, as well as to its continental connections and its theological complexity, this research re-evaluates its historiographical legacy in the light of recent research and controversy. Traditional interpretations of High Churchmanship have presented it either as a heroic rediscovery of the real essence of Anglicanism, or as an eccentric distortion of it. This volume asserts instead its theological creativity and its popular roots as a permanent enrichment of the Anglican tradition, whilst also analysing and describing the nature and limits of its growth.
