Introduction to Parallel Algorithms and Architectures: Arrays Trees Hypercubes provides an introduction to the expanding field of parallel algorithms and architectures. This book focuses on parallel computation involving the most popular network architectures, namely, arrays, trees, hypercubes, and some closely related networks. Organized into three chapters, this book begins with an overview of the simplest architectures of arrays and trees. This text then presents the structures and relationships between the dominant network architectures, as well as the most efficient parallel algorithms for a wide variety of problems. Other chapters focus on fundamental results and techniques and on rigorous analysis of algorithmic performance. This book discusses as well a hybrid of network architecture based on arrays and trees called the mesh of trees. The final chapter deals with the most important properties of hypercubes. This book is a valuable resource for readers with a general technical background.

The IEEE Third International Conference on Algorithms and Architectures for Parallel Processing (ICA3PP-97) will be held in Melbourne, Australia from December 8th to 12th, 1997. The purpose of this important conference is to bring together developers and researchers from universities, industry and government to advance science and technology in distributed and parallel systems and processing.

Research in the field of parallel computer architectures and parallel algorithms has been very successful in recent years, and further progress isto be expected. On the other hand, the question of basic principles of the architecture of universal parallel computers and their realizations is still wide open. The answer to this question must be regarded as mostimportant for the further development of parallel computing and especially for user acceptance. The First Heinz Nixdorf Symposium brought together leading experts in the field of parallel computing and its applications to discuss the state of the art, promising directions of research, and future perspectives. It was the first in a series of Heinz Nixdorf Symposia,intended to cover varying subjects from the research spectrum of the Heinz Nixdorf Institute of the University of Paderborn. This volume presents the proceedings of the symposium, which was held in Paderborn in November 1992. The contributions are grouped into four parts: parallel computation models and simulations, existing parallel machines, communication and programming paradigms, and parallel algorithms.

This volume presents the proceedings of the 5th International Conference Parallel Architectures and Languages Europe (PARLE '94), held in Athens, Greece in July 1994. PARLE is the main Europe-based event on parallel processing. Parallel processing is now well established within the high-performance computing technology and of stategic importance not only to the computer industry, but also for a wide range of applications affecting the whole economy. The 60 full papers and 24 poster presentations accepted for this proceedings were selected from some 200 submissions by the international program committee; they cover the whole field and give a timely state-of-the-art report on research and advanced applications in parallel computing.

DISC, the International Symposium on Distributed Computing, is an annual conference for the presentation of research on the theory, design, analysis, implementation, and application of distributed systems and network. DISC 2004 was held on October 4-7, 2004, in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. There were 142 papers submitted to DISC this year. These were read and evaluated by the program committee members, assisted by external reviewers. The quality of submissions was high and we were unable to accept many dese- ing papers. Thirty one papers were selected at the program committee meeting in Lausanne to be included in these proceedings. The proceedings include an extended abstract of the invited talk by Ueli Maurer. In addition, they include a eulogy for Peter Ruzicka by Shmuel Zaks. The Best Student Paper Award was split and given to two papers: the paper “Efficient Adaptive Collect Using Randomization”, co-authored by Hagit Attiya, Fabian Kuhn, Mirjam Wattenhofer and Roger Wattenhofer, and the paper “Coupling and Self-stabilization”,co-authored by Laurent Fribourg, Stephane Messika and Claudine Picaronny. He was a Professor of Informatics at the Faculty of Mathematics, Physics and Informatics in Comenius University, Bratislava, Slovakia. Those of us who knew him through DISC and other occasions mourn his death and cherish his memory

ISTCS '92, the Israel Symposium on the Theory of Computing and Systems, cameabout spontaneously as a result of informal interaction between a group of people who viewed the conference as an appropriate expression of Israeli strength in theoretical aspects of computing and systems. The enthusiasm that the symposium created resulted in the submission of a large number of extremely high quality papers, which led in turn to strict acceptance criteria. This volume contains nineteen selected papers representing the cream of Israeli talent in the field, on a variety of active and interesting topics in the theory of computing and systems.
