This book traces the Trinitarian thought of Raimon Panikkar in his attempt to bridge the gap between Christianity and the world religions. The viewpoints of the early and later Panikkar show continuity and shifts in his Trinitarian theology. The early Panikkar provides a Trinitarian theology and reaches the heart of the world religions, especially the Advaita Vedanta experience in Hinduism and the Nirvana experience of Buddhism. The later Panikkar, still using many of the probing concepts of his earlier thought, departs significantly from traditional Christian theology. His thoughts still continue the attempt at bridge-building between Christianity on the one hand and the world religions, and even the secular world, on the other. Although several dimensions of Panikkar's Trinitarian theology are open to severe criticism, nevertheless, it serves as an effective tool for furthering awareness of and dialogue between the world religions.

Efforts to construct a Christian theology of religions have inevitably stumbled on the Christian scandal of particularity—the historical Jesus of Nazareth. What, however, if we began by focusing on the universal presence and activity of God in the world as symbolized by the Holy Spirit? Yong develops just such a pneumatological approach to religions, drawing, by way of resource, on the Pentecostal-charismatic experience of the Spirit. This book thus invites Pentecostals, charismatics, and other Christians to conceive of how a pneumatological approach to religions can invigorate the wider ecumenical conversation. At the same time, it also brings recent Pentecostal-charismatic scholarship into dialogue with a broader audience, including those interested in philosophical theology, world religions, global spiritualities, and comparative religion and theology.

In contrast to the popular notion that the doctrine of the Trinity hinders Christians from engaging with the reality of religious diversity, this book argues that the doctrine is the best way of constructing contemporary theology of religions. An Imaginative Glimpse reexamines three prominent Trinitarian theologians of religions (Raimundo Panikkar, Gavin D'Costa, and S. Mark Heim) and proposes a fresh and creative model by bringing the classical idea of perichoresis to its present-day multifaith situation. Opening a new alternative in both Trinitarian theology and theology of religions, Adiprasetya's approach adds a distinctive contribution to the ongoing and challenging discussion in both fields. By using perichoresis imaginatively as a multidimensional category for multiple religious participations within the Trinity, Adiprasetya argues that the model is able to respect all religions on their own terms, while at the same time being faithful to the Christian standpoint.
