This handbook presents a cost-effective and reliable data collection strategy for measuring and analyzing informal employment and the informal sector. The cornerstone of this methodology is a version of the mixed survey that is anchored to the Labor Force Survey conducted regularly by developing countries. The Handbook draws from experience in the implementation of the mixed survey in Armenia, Bangladesh, and Indonesia under regional technical assistance 6430: Measuring the Informal Sector. It discusses viable methodologies and processes by which data collected from the mixed survey can be utilized to generate statistics on informal employment and the informal sector. The empirical evidence that will be produced can solidify the efforts on these topics, from research to policy making.

Social protection is central to the goal of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) of achieving the inclusive growth agenda in Asia and the Pacific. The report takes stock of ADB's support for social protection and the progress with implementing ADB's Social Protection Strategy. The Asian Development Bank launched a review in February 2010 to assess the 2005 public communications policy's (PCP) efficacy and recommend changes as necessary to improve and strengthen it. The review engaged interested individuals and organizations. Consultation drafts were released in June and November 2010. Extensive discussions of the policy were held with a wide range of stakeholders in a number of ADB member countries within and outside Asia and the Pacific. ADB also undertook two global surveys of its stakeholders to gauge their perceptions of ADB's performance and communications. This revised public communications policy takes into account the internal and external comments received, and the findings of the global perception surveys.

Focusing on the Asia-Pacific region, which in recent years has been the engine of global economic growth , this volume surveys trends and prospects in technical and vocational education and training (TVET) with particular reference to achieving inclusive growth and the greening of economies. Underlying the increasing pressure for new models of TVET provision is the rapid pace of technological change, demand for a work force which is highly responsive to evolving needs and a transforming market place that calls for higher order skills and lifelong learning. The book proposes a re-engineered, modernized TVET system that fosters an innovative approach which enhances the employability of workers as well as the sustainability of their livelihoods. The third Sustainability Report of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) offers easily accessible information on ADB’s policies, programs, and practices as they relate to the social and environmental sustainability of development in Asia and the Pacific, and on changes in this work that have occurred since ADB published its second Sustainability Report, in 2009.
