BOOK EXCERPT:

Rarely does a book come along that is so absorbing that the reader cannot put the book down. Such a book is BEYOND COURAGE. Robert Aros, along with veteran writer Rob Ternan, has aptly recorded the action packed story of himself, his wife Margaret & their 17-year-old son Christian being shipwrecked & set adrift in a tiny rubber raft for 26 days in the South Pacific. They survived unbelievable odds as El Nino crazed seas, strange winds, fateful blunders & bumbling rescue efforts conspired to strip them of food, water & even hope itself. A family tale of conflict, survival, faith & love. REVIEWS: "it is definitely the type of book that once you start, you cannot put it down. The variety of emotions, fear, anxiety, love, & hope saturate every page. Definitely not your typical 'LOST AT SEA STORY', but a true adventure."--David Underwood. "I read the first chapter & was hooked. It pulled me right in. It was not overly wordy, & didn't beat around the bush, but got right into the action."--Carol Jackson, Librarian. "Terse honest account of an extraordinary human experience. It steers clear of sentimentality & heads straight for the stronger emotions, fear, desperation & ultimately joy."--Vivian Reed, Librarian. Shore Publishing, 239 Nieto Ave., Suite A, Long Beach, CA 90803. (800) 655-8689.

BOOK EXCERPT:

What makes someone “heroic”? Courage? Perhaps, but true heroism involves much more. Heroes come in all shapes and sizes. They hail from every economic, religious, and cultural background. They are old and young, rich and poor, but they all have something in common: each, in his or her own way, has made a difference in someone’s life. In this moving collection, Chris Benguhe reveals the 9 key traits possessed by people who go beyond courage and make miracles happen every day. These inspiring true stories reveal the strength of the human spirit and the power of love. • Recently divorced and diagnosed with a terminal illness, a man risks his job to save the lives of young men and women he’ll never have the chance to meet. • An alcoholic drug addict pulls her life together and establishes a life skills program for homeless people to help them get jobs. • When a New York City firefighter nearly dies in a five-alarm inferno, doctors inform him that he may never walk again and most certainly will never again fight fires. Through unwavering commitment, he is back on the job within three years.

BOOK EXCERPT:

This new book covers the adventures of 283, 284, 293 and 294 Walrus Squadrons, operating from North Africa, Sicily, Italy and Sardinia. The pilots, like their counterparts in England, knew of the dangers of landing on the sea. It was a daunting task attempting to rescue downed airmen as they had often to operate in bad weather, and near hostile coasts. Airmen who were bobbing about in dinghies, or even just in their Mae West life jackets, were difficult to locate. Rescues from the cold sea needed to be speedy affairs, especially of those survivors not in dinghies, and the Walrus aircrew were always aware that time was of the essence. Moreover, rescues near a hostile shore often resulted in gunfire from German or Italian gunners. Missions were always treacherous. Many Walrus pilots have added personal recollections to the narrative and so too have some of those airmen who were rescued. As well as RAF and SAAF airmen, there were numerous USAAF units involved in the air war over the Mediterranean and Italy, and Norman has been in contact with several Americans whose lives were saved by these gallant men who flew the Walrus amphibian single-engined biplane. Men who knew only too well that to pick up more than two or three airmen generally meant a hard sea-borne taxi ride back to base, which conditions never guaranteed. The stories of these rescues gives one a sense of sincere pride in the men who daily risked their lives to save others from a very hostile environment.
