A Prayer As A Poem For Each Day

eBook Download

BOOK EXCERPT:

This book, A PRAYER AS A POEM FOR EACH DAY, gives everyone a spiritual connection with the lifeline of God. Although these poems seem to be primarily for the Christian but you will find that much of the meaning of the words concentrate on the individual as being compassionate and doing the right thing in this world relationship with one and another. The rhyming of the words is like a musical background. Some of the poems help the reader to cope with the hurts and torments of their inner self and understanding the pains of their fellowman. It is prudent that we fundamentally deal with one day at a time to simplify our lives and we should pray daily. This book will be an excellent guideline. Each poem is a story emphasizing the virtues of goodness as tools to resolve problems and to find peace in the spiritual world. I'm Richard A. Dixon, author of this book, A PRAYER AS A POEM FOR EACH DAY, and in this AUTHOR BIO it will give you a genuine insight of a perfect example of a compassionate heart that was initiated by an early foundation of living in a Christian atmosphere with my Grandparents. My religion is my driving force. I have formally written three other books as a series of Spiritual poems. My Bachelor of Science has also helped me in my current writing endeavor. My conclusion is a poetic reminder: This book is not just to read for a day or a week or a month or even a year, this is for a lifetime to build your character and to bring your heart spiritual cheer. PRAY EVERYDAY OF YOUR LIFE TO CONFRONT THE WORLD OF SIN PRAY AND ACQUIRE HOPE AND DIRECTION PRAY AND LIVE UNTIL THE END.

eBook Download

BOOK EXCERPT:

Fifteen years in the making, The Encyclopedia of Jewish Prayer is a monumental achievement. Never before has such a comprehensive resource been available to those searching for answers to questions on Jewish prayer. Macy Nulman has provided, in one unique, accessible volume, information on each and every prayer recited in the Ashkenazic and Sephardic traditions, creating an invaluable tool for study or quick reference. Prayer books are essentially cumulative anthologies that evolved over time as new prayers were added. Study of these prayers reveals insights into the history of Judaism, providing a deeper appreciation of the heritage that has sustained the Jewish people throughout the centuries. This volume, through its encyclopedic format, makes such a study easy and enjoyable. Arranged alphabetically by prayer, the encyclopedia entries include extensive liturgical information on the prayers, their composers and development, the laws and customs surrounding them, and their place in the service. All prayers, including not only prayers recited in the synagogue, but also the Grace After Meals and the prayers to be said before going to bed, prayers for special occasions such as weddings and circumcisions, prayers for the funeral ritual and for private devotion, are featured. The entries make extensive use of cross-referencing and bibliographical information to facilitate further study. In addition, the author discusses the many poetic insertions, known as piyyutim, recited on special Sabbaths, Holy Days, and festivals. Concise and easy to consult, The Encyclopedia of Jewish Prayer contains several indexes: two title indexes - one in Hebrew and one in transliteration - as well as an index of biblical verses and a name index. The Fiction Of Occasion In Hellenistic And Roman Poetry

eBook Download

BOOK EXCERPT:

The aim of this book is to devise a method for approaching the problem of presence in Hellenistic and Roman poetry. The problem of presence, as defined here, is the problem of the availability or accessibility to the reader of the fictional worlds disclosed by poetry. From Callimachus’ Hymns to the Odes of Horace, poets of this era repeatedly challenge readers by beckoning them to explore fictive spaces which are at once familiar and otherworldly, realms of the imagination which are nevertheless firmly rooted in the lived reality of the poets and their contemporaries. We too, when we read these poems, may feel simultaneously a sense of being transported to a world apart and of being seized upon by the poem’s address in the here and now of reading. The fiction of occasion is proposed as a new conceptual tool for understanding how these poems produce such problematic presences and what varieties of experience they make possible for their readers. The fiction of occasion is defined as a phenomenon whereby a poem is fictionally framed as part of a material event or ‘occasion’ with which the reader is invited to engage through the medium of the senses. The book explores this concept through close readings of key authors from the corpus of first-person poetry written in Greek and Latin between the 3rd century BCE and the 1st century CE, with a focus on Callimachus, Bion, Catullus, Propertius, and Horace. The ultimate purpose of these readings is to move towards developing a new vocabulary for conceptualising ancient poetry as an embodied experience.

How Do You Pray

eBook Download

BOOK EXCERPT:

As we evolve, so do our prayers; as our prayers evolve, so do we. This is the evolution of illumination, the collective voice of the soul of the world. How Do You Pray? was born from a vision in which Celeste Yacoboni was told to ask the world, "How Do You Pray?" She reached out to leading spiritual, shamanic, scientific teachers, guides, and activists and asked for their response. Culled from those responses is an original and deeply personal collection of essays. Talking intimately and candidly about how they pray, these personalities encourage the reader to contemplate the intention of prayer in their own life. This collection speaks to the reader's heart and asks What is your soul's expression? How do you dance in ecstasy, bare your soul to the divine? Bow in gratitude? Merge with nature? Cry out for guidance? How do you pray? This groundbreaking and moving book gathers responses from leaders of diverse spiritual and religious traditions ranging from Buddhism to Islam to Christianity, as well as those who do not claim one or any particular walk of faith. Contributors include Brother David Steindl-Rast, Matthew Fox, James O'Dea, Llewellyn Vaughan-Lee, Tessa Bielecki, Lama Surya Das, Hank Wesselman, Father Bede Griffiths, Byron Katie, Joan Halifax, Normandi Ellis, Andrew Harvey, Dan Millman, Kristena Prater, Nicki Scully, Mirabai Starr, and more. This book is a beautiful gift package with matte laminate cover and red ribbon.
