BOOK EXCERPT:
From the very beginning man has struggled for truth through some form of religion. Unfortunately, one accepted creed traveled through time unacceptable to any basic truth. This religion had long ago accepted man's thoughts over God's, creating its own form of worship. This was often a deceptive, if not clearly a dishonest route to theocentric ethics - needed in a successful search for God's Truth. Clerics and prelates waved God aside as they interpreted His meaning to benefit themselves in their quest for worldly riches - for absolute power...

BOOK EXCERPT:
War may be bad for business, but sometimes, it’s necessary to move your business into the future. In this tale of love and loyalty, jealousy, betrayal, and hate, Imani Mosley finds herself at the center of it all. In addition to restructuring her family’s legitimate luxury charter business, Imani is rebuilding their weapons- and drug-trafficking business. Her brother, Hareem, who jealously thinks that he should be in charge, believes the way to expand is to eliminate his enemy, a mysterious woman known only as Diamond. Despite Imani’s warnings that his actions might start a war, Hareem sets out to prove that he’s right. In an attempt to draw Diamond out, he goes hard at her dealers. Imani’s world gets complicated when Brock Whitehall returns after serving a ten-year sentence for transporting assault weapons. Before he went to prison, her father had always seen Brock as his heir apparent. Now he’s back, looking for the money he was promised. He has plans to move on once he gets the money, until he sees Imani. Now he wants it all.

BOOK EXCERPT:
This is the first volume of a projected four-volume series charting the causes of war from 3000 BCE to the present day, written by a leading international lawyer, and using as its principal materials the documentary history of international law largely in the form of treaties and the negotiations which led up to them. These volumes seek to show why millions of people, over thousands of years, slayed each other. In departing from the various theories put forward by historians, anthropologists and psychologists, Gillespie offers a different taxonomy of the causes of war, focusing on the broader settings of politics, religion, migrations and empire-building. These four contexts were dominant and often overlapping justifications for the first four thousand years of human civilisation, for which written records exist.

BOOK EXCERPT:
Burck and Daniel share the personal meaning that gender holds for them, and the open and enquiring, rather than definitive, style of their writing makes it easy for the reader to grasp their ideas. The authors' handling in the early chapters of the many intellectual conundrums about gender is clear and assured, and through their many citations of other literature in the field they have managed to align this volume with other scholarly works while at the same time ensuring a very readable and practical book.

BOOK EXCERPT:
What comes after the reconceptualization of curriculum studies? What is the contribution of the next wave of curriculum scholars? Comprehensive and on the cutting edge, this Handbook speaks to these questions and extends the conversation on present and future directions in curriculum studies through the work of twenty-four newer scholars who explore, each in their own unique ways, the present moment in curriculum studies. To contextualize the work of this up-and-coming generation, each chapter is paired with a shorter response by a well-known scholar in the field, provoking an intra-/inter-generational exchange that illuminates both historical trajectories and upcoming moments. From theorizing at the crossroads of feminist thought and post-colonialism to new perspectives that include critical race, currere, queer southern studies, Black feminist cultural analysis, post-structural policy studies, spiritual ecology, and East-West international philosophies, present and future directions in the U.S. American field are revealed.
