BOOK EXCERPT:
A River of Tears The River of Hope centers on the saga of the Two Torah Scrolls, and of an fluent and thriving community living peacefully for 2600 years until World War II and the events of Nazism, anti-Semitism and hatred took place in the ancient region known as the Cradle of Civilization, or modern days Iraq. The creation of Iraq by the British installed an unsuccessful attempt at Monarchy. The results were staggering and ultimately ended in the displacement of an entire community to Israel and the first settlement of the community in this newly created State. A River of Tears The River of Hope follows the enchanting and fascinating Murad family. The Murad family brought to Israel a proud heritage to share with the world including the two Torah Scrolls of their beloved father and grandfather, Rabbi Ezra Murad. Rabbi Murads two Torah Scrolls traveled with the family to Israel, where he was rightfully recognized as an important and impactful role models. His name shined within the community in Baghdad, and his memory and the valuable Two Torah Scrolls continued to stand out in Israel. While settling in Israel the Murad family showed us the most valuable elements of hope, drive, and determination as they continued to thrive in Israel and Canada. They continued to believe in their abilities to succeed. Indeed, as their lives changed and they relocated, the Murad family always maintained focus and the belief in their ability to survive and flourish. A River of Tears The River of Hope will welcome readers into the history of the Murad family and their amazing journey from a world filled with oppression and tyranny, to one supported by acceptance and support.

BOOK EXCERPT:
In this stunning work of historical fiction, LR Penn has concocted a breathtaking epic adventure that begins in 1890 in a small Zulu village in South Africa but spans three centuries and two continents. It is also a personal memoir that tells the story of a family torn apart by a racist totalitarian regime. The book examines a series of powerful conflicts: the cultural clash between ancient ethnic traditions and encroaching Western values; the political battle between the underground resistance movement and the repressive military strength of a modern nation state; and stirring personal conflicts, as illustrated by the impossibly difficult choices that the novel's heroes are forced to make - between the quest for liberation and the pursuit of love, between a family's security and a people's freedom. Diamonds on a River of Tears presents an in depth portrait of day-to-day life in a society altogether out of balance, playfully juxtaposing its comic absurdities and tragic injustices, but ultimately handing down a moral indictment that all of contemporary civilization will have to face.

"Fanning wisdom's flame within the heart of the reader.... This book will shed light on the spirituality of generations past as well as the light that is being called forth for future generations." She was not sleeping well. Dreams, headaches followed, the nightmares started, Night terrors which were terrifying for the both of us... then the loss of weight; I took her to a Dr. he suggested medication, which did not help. The nightmares became worse. Every night she went to bed, she would dream...she would wake up screaming, terrified every night for several weeks. Imagine a child any child going through this. I was beside myself not knowing what to do. Her headaches were getting worse, and her weight loss was worrying me. I did the only thing I knew to do; I prayed to God to help us. I was scared for my daughter, and I did not know how to stop this. I also did the second thing I knew to do; I took her to the doctor again. I told him about her nightmares, and he looked at me like I was a crazy person and asked me what I thought those nightmares were going to do to her, harm her? I said yes they already were. I was afraid for my daughter; I was afraid the nightmares were going to destroy her. He laughed. I lost all control. I could not help her, so I was putting her in someone else's hand who is supposed to help her, someone who is supposed to be a healer. He was more concerned with her weight loss and headaches and put her in the hospital for further testing. I met a mother whose daughter shared the room with my daughter. They asked me questions about my daughter, about her dreams, so I proceeded to tell them the story. The daughter kept looking at her mother, then asked her if she should tell me, only to hear her mother reply no. The mother asked me what I thought would happen if my daughter opened the door? I did not hesitate. I knew if my daughter opened the door to the man in black my daughter would die.... This broke my heart because I felt so alone with all of this, and I had no way to prevent it. How could I help my daughter? I had prayed and asked God to help me, and I knew he was the only one who could help me for this was way out of my league. The young women looked at her mother and said mom we have to tell her. Finally, I yelled, tell me what? If you have something to tell me that will help my child, PLEASE TELL ME! I was desperate and somewhere inside I knew my answer was sitting right here before my very eyes.... Find out how Kathy helped her daughter and many others with her gifts from Spirit.

BOOK EXCERPT:
River of Tears is the first ethnography of Brazilian country music, one of the most popular genres in Brazil yet least-known outside it. Beginning in the mid-1980s, commercial musical duos practicing música sertaneja reached beyond their home in Brazil’s central-southern region to become national bestsellers. Rodeo events revolving around country music came to rival soccer matches in attendance. A revival of folkloric rural music called música caipira, heralded as música sertaneja’s ancestor, also took shape. And all the while, large numbers of Brazilians in the central-south were moving to cities, using music to support the claim that their Brazil was first and foremost a rural nation. Since 1998, Alexander Sebastian Dent has analyzed rural music in the state of São Paulo, interviewing and spending time with listeners, musicians, songwriters, journalists, record-company owners, and radio hosts. Dent not only describes the production and reception of this music, he also explains why the genre experienced such tremendous growth as Brazil transitioned from an era of dictatorship to a period of intense neoliberal reform. Dent argues that rural genres reflect a widespread anxiety that change has been too radical and has come too fast. In defining their music as rural, Brazil’s country musicians—whose work circulates largely in cities—are criticizing an increasingly inescapable urban life characterized by suppressed emotions and an inattentiveness to the past. Their performances evoke a river of tears flowing through a landscape of loss—of love, of life in the countryside, and of man’s connections to the natural world.
