BOOK EXCERPT:
The Micmac Indians of Eastern Canada was first published in 1955. Minnesota Archive Editions uses digital technology to make long-unavailable books once again accessible, and are published unaltered from the original University of Minnesota Press editions. The culture of an Indian tribe over a period of 300 years is described in this comprehensive ethnographic study by a husband and wife anthropologist team. The earliest accounts of the Micmac Indians were written by seventeenth-century French explorers and missionaries. These give historical perspective to the work done by the Wallises, whose research is based on field trips that bridged a 40-years span. Dr. Wallis first observed the Micmac tribes in 1911–12. He and Mrs. Wallis revisited them in 1950 and 1953, assessing the changes in material cultural and in orientation, drives, and motivations. In addition, they have preserved a rich collection of Micmac folktales and traditions, published as a separate section of the book.

BOOK EXCERPT:
For Marie-Ève Gaspardin, the Seaside Hotel is of paramount importance. The thirty-year-old has always been fully involved in the company founded by her father. It must be said that she hopes to lead the establishment one day, despite the clear preference of her patriarch for the beloved son, Joshua. Fortunately, Marie-Ève is a fighter ready to take up any challenge to satisfy the great Rodolphe G. Gaspardin and keep the hotel afloat despite some financial problems. However, her commitment is severely tested the day she meets her attractive new neighbor, Guillermo Voily. Their unusual meeting leads to a whole series of accidents, and Marie-Ève finds herself playing nurse at the same time when family revelations are multiplying, creating a stir at the hotel. Will the young woman manage to do everything simultaneously? Agnes Ruiz is the author of several best-sellers. She had huge success with her first novel “Ma vie assassinée”. She writes for both adults and children. Her short stories featuring the investigations of detective Rachel Toury have also been very successful in Europe as well as North America. Several translations are available. She is originally from Normandy (France) and lived in Canada for almost 20 years.
