BOOK EXCERPT:
This Family Devotional Guide was prepared to bring awareness to the Body of Christ as a more excellent way of worship unto the Lord. As believers it is our purpose to worship the Lord and we must begin to know Father God in a more excellent way. So many times, I hear people talk about God as though He is so far away like a far distant cousin they have - but rarely ever see or talk to. We often claim to know God, but not in a more intimate way as we should and could, so we simply only know about him. Our intimacy begins with our conversations with our Father. We must know that prayer is our communication, our communing with Daddy God. It is our acknowledgment of our Creator, our Master. As His children begin to acknowledge and speak of His many character qualities, dimensions, and attributes, this will depict the vast Excellencies of his matchless names and marvelous works. We will then begin to develop an intimate relationship with Abba Father to speak well of Him in our devotion times. As we draw nigh to Daddy God, He will draw nigh to us (James 4:8).

This book provides reflections on the Sunday Bible readings in the Roman Catholic Lectionary for Years A, B, and C of the liturgical cycle. They previously appeared in separate volumes of Sunday Matters published by ATF Theology in the Dominican Series. They have now been combined in this single volume, colour coded for easier use, and with a revised general introduction and introduction to the Gospel of Matthew. Like the previous volumes, this one is intended to assist those preparing homilies and those with a desire to understand a little more deeply the readings used in the Sunday liturgy.

BOOK EXCERPT:
The Old Testament narrative of the Bible recounts the grand story of God calling a people to be his own. God chooses, saves, and spares that nation as he builds a channel of redemption in order to spread his glory over all the earth. Ultimately, God sends his son, Jesus Christ, to die for the sins of the world. What appears to be a defeat in the death of God’s Son becomes a victory, as Christ conquers death in his resurrection. Will God’s glory fill the earth? So Send I You: God’s Progress of Redemption: Part Two answers this question. As we follow the dramatic growth of the New Testament church, as recorded in the book of Acts, we will come to understand that God is surely at work in his world. His followers spread the good news of Christ’s work on the cross and his powerful resurrection, beginning from Jerusalem, cascading to the surrounding areas, and ultimately to the “ends of the earth.” As you read So Send I You: God’s Progress of Redemption, you just might discover that you too are part of God’s marvelous plan to spread his glory over all of the earth.

BOOK EXCERPT:
As I discovered the answers to many of my questions, I could not keep them to myself. This is my attempt, despite my inadequacy, to share with you what I have been given. My heart was opened to a wealth of understanding, even the most perplexing dilemma of all--- motherhood. It is my hope that the eyes of your heart will be enlightened to see the hope of His calling; therefore, I have chosen to lead the reader to what I was given (Ephesians 1:18). I am convinced that some of these answers were not meant to be understood until their season, now.

BOOK EXCERPT:
An enigmatic collection of 114 sayings of Jesus, the 'Gospel of Thomas' was discovered in the sands of Nag Hammadi, Egypt, in the 1940's. Here, April DeConick provides a new English translation of the entire Gospel of Thomas, which includes the original 'kernel' of the Gospel and all the sayings. Whilst most other translations are of the Coptic text with only occasional reference to the Greek fragment variants, this translation integrates the Greek and offers new solutions to complete the lacunae. A unique feature of this book is that translations to the parallels of the Gospel are also included. Since its discovery, scholars and the public alike have been intrigued to know what the Gospel says and what light it sheds on the formation of early Christianity. In 'Recovering the Original Gospel of Thomas', April DeConick argued that the gospel was a 'rolling corpus,' a book of sayings that grew over time, beginning as a simple written gospel containing oracles of the prophet Jesus. As the community faced various crises and constituency changes, including the delay of the Eschaton and the need to accommodate Gentiles within the group, its traditions were reinterpreted and the sayings in their gospel updated, accommodating the present experiences of the community. This volume was originally published in hardback as volume 287 in the Journal for the Study of the New Testament Supplement series and is part of the Early Christianity in Context subseries.
