eBook Download

BOOK EXCERPT:

Wireless sensor and body area networks (WSN and WBAN respectively) have been seen as a future way to monitor humans' psycho-physiological signs remotely. There are a number of standards that could be used for building WBAN sytems. However, wireless UWB networks based on IEEE 802.15.4a offer the advantages of a large frequency range and low power spectral density, making it suitable for both WSNs and WBANs used for medical applications. The technology has matured sufficiently that it can be used to develop products for the marketplace. This book presents how the IEEE802.15.4-2011 (former IEEE802.15.4a) can be used in wireless body area networks (WBAN) for healthcare and welfare related applications. It gives a short overview on the IEEE802.15.4 family and then gives details of IEEE802.15.4-2011 based solutions. - Presents how the IEEE802.15.4-2011 (former IEEE802.15.4a) can be used in wireless body area networks (WBAN) for healthcare and welfare related applications - Gives a short overview on the IEEE802.15.4 family - Gives details of IEEE802.15.4-2011 based solutions

Delay Doppler Communications

eBook Download

BOOK EXCERPT:

Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) has been the waveform of choice for most wireless communications systems in the past 25 years. This book addresses the "what comes next? question by presenting the recently proposed waveform known as Orthogonal Time-Frequency-Space (OTFS), which offers a better alternative for high-mobility environments. The OTFS waveform is based on the idea that the mobile wireless channels can be effectively modelled in the delay-Doppler domain. This domain provides a sparse representation closely resembling the physical geometry of the wireless channel. The key physical parameters such as relative velocity and distance of the reflectors with respect to the receiver can be considered roughly invariant in the duration of a frame up to a few milliseconds. This enables the information symbols encoded in the delay-Doppler domain to experience a flat fading channel even when they are affected by multiple Doppler shifts present in high-mobility environments. Delay-Doppler Communications: Principles and Applications covers the fundamental concepts and the underlying principles of delay-Doppler communications. Readers familiar with OFDM will be able to quickly understand the key differences in delay-Doppler domain waveforms that can overcome some of the challenges of high-mobility communications. For the broader readership with a basic knowledge of wireless communications principles, the book provides sufficient background to be self-contained. The book provides a general overview of future research directions and discusses a range of applications of delay-Doppler domain signal processing. - This is the first book on delay-Doppler communications - It is written by three of the leading authorities in the field - It includes a wide range of applications With this book, the reader will be able to: - Recognize the challenges of high-mobility channels affected by both multipath and multiple Doppler shifts in physical layer waveform design and performance - Understand the limitations of current multicarrier techniques such as OFDM in high-mobility channels - Recognize the mathematical and physical relations between the different domains for representing channels and waveforms: time-frequency, time-delay, delay-Doppler - Understand the operation of the key blocks of a delay-Doppler modulator and demodulator both analytically and by hands-on MATLAB examples - Master the special features and advantages of OTFS with regard to detection, channel estimation, MIMO, and multiuser MIMO - Realize the importance of delay-Doppler communications for current and future applications, e.g., 6G and beyond

Integration Of Mtc And Satellites For Iot Toward 6g Era

eBook Download

BOOK EXCERPT:

Comprehensive and authoritative resource paving the way for the integration of machine-type communications (MTC) and satellite connectivity toward 6G era This book focuses on the integration of machine-type communications (MTC) and satellite connectivity toward the 6th generation of mobile systems (i.e., the ā€œ6Gā€). Integrating these two technologies, especially within the emerging direct-to-satellite (DtS) concept employing direct connectivity between an MTC terminal and a satellite-based gateway, will be critical in enabling the future Internet of Things (IoT) applications in remote areas with limited connectivity infrastructure available. To this end, the book delivers an in-depth analysis of the drivers, use cases, scenarios, technical aspects, cybersecurity, and mechanisms spanning from the physical layer (PHY) to the application layer, regulation, standardization, and potential business models. In addition, many examples, illustrative figures, and tables support the text. With each chapter written by renowned experts in the field, Integration of MTC and Satellites for IoT toward 6G era contains information on: How to enable wireless connectivity for MTC/IoT devices in remote areas, which hardware and network architectures can be employed, and their pros and cons Fundamental and practical challenges, design dimensions, and perspective technologies for integrated MTC and satellite systems Applications and business areas that would be the first ones to employ DtS and status of standardization and regulation activities in the field The strong tutorial element makes the Integration of MTC and Satellites for IoT toward 6G era a convenient learning resource for students and educators in higher education institutions. Moreover, it is ideal for students obtaining their first professional degree and experts who operate in this or adjacent fields and want to revise and update their knowledge.
