BOOK EXCERPT:
In 1995, as Samuel Bak was working on a suite of twenty large paintings eventually entitled Landscape of Jewish Experience, Pucker Gallery reached out to scholar Lawrence L. Langer, who had recently edited Art from the Ashes: A Holocaust Anthology, to contribute to the monograph. His willingness to undertake this effort would open a vast experience for both Langer and Bak. For nearly thirty years, they have participated in a creative dance of images and ideas that has expanded both of their visions. Langer has written with great insight and precision about each new body of Bak’s art. Bak has in turn been energized by his exchanges with Langer. Together they have given each of us an opportunity—to address the fundamental questions of moral choice and our responsibility to unite and not divide, and to address the past and behave in a more humane and respectful manner toward one another in the present and future. An Unimaginable Partnership gathers these words and images in an impressive and extensive volume.

BOOK EXCERPT:
Rivers host vibrant multispecies communities in their waters and along their banks, and, according to queer-trans-feminist river scientist Cleo Wölfle Hazard, their future vitality requires centering the values of justice, sovereignty, and dynamism. At the intersection of river sciences, queer and trans theory, and environmental justice, Underflows explores river cultures and politics at five sites of water conflict and restoration in California, Oregon, and Washington. Incorporating work with salmon, beaver, and floodplain recovery projects, Wölfle Hazard weaves narratives about innovative field research practices with an affectively oriented queer and trans focus on love and grief for rivers and fish. Drawing on the idea of underflows—the parts of a river’s flow that can’t be seen, the underground currents that seep through soil or rise from aquifers through cracks in bedrock—Wölfle Hazard elucidates the underflows in river cultures, sciences, and politics where Native nations and marginalized communities fight to protect rivers. The result is a deeply moving account of why rivers matter for queer and trans life, offering critical insights that point to innovative ways of doing science that disrupt settler colonialism and new visions for justice in river governance.

BOOK EXCERPT:
The book draws upon the Out Source Service Agents Programme that was launched in Xerox India in 1998. It covers the transformation of a group of Service Technicians with no background of business into successful entrepreneurs. It captures their fears and challenges as they set off on an unfamiliar journey and how they gradually learned the ropes to become successful business men .There were failures and setbacks for some and successes for others. The book is a factual assessment of the programme, covering more than a decade since its launch. The book covers what makes for good programme management and successful outsourcing of service operations through in- depth studies of thirteen of the early adopters of this programme. Each story provides rich material for use as case studies in training programmes and is also very good instructional material for those involved with customer services and outsource programme management. The book covers some of the issues that led to less than acceptable results from the companys perspective and how these could have been avoided.

BOOK EXCERPT:
We often have a tendency to passively accept and adopt suggestions, readily embracing diverse perspectives from both familiar sources and the wider world. However, the majority fail to benefit from this approach, resorting to mere rationalization and verbalizing after encountering setbacks. People tend to seek guidance and insights externally, neglecting to explore their own inner selves. As the old adage goes, we often assign greater importance to what is distant rather than what is within reach. Until individuals undergo a process of self-reflection and rejuvenation, they may fail to recognize their own intrinsic power and worth. We have yet to explore or acknowledge the potential within us, failing to engage in introspection and cultivate a meaningful relationship with our own minds. Harnessing the extraordinary capabilities of our minds through mindful practices can significantly transform us into resilient and exceptional individuals, poised to excel and lead with confidence.

BOOK EXCERPT:
Partnerships for Sustainability in Contemporary Global Governance investigates the goals, ideals, and realities of sustainability partnerships and offers a theoretical framework to help disentangle the multiple and interrelated pathways that shape their effectiveness. Partnerships are ubiquitous in research and policy discussions about sustainability and are important governance instruments for the provision of public goods. While partnerships promise a great deal, there is little clarity as to what they deliver. If partnerships are to break free from this paradox, more nuance and rigor are required for understanding and assessing their actual effects. This volume applies its original framework to diverse empirical cases in a way that could be extended to broader data sets and case studies of partnerships. The dual contribution of this volume, theoretical and empirical, holds promise for a more thorough and innovative understanding of the pathways to partnership effectiveness and the conditions that can shape their performance. The broad range of crosscutting analyses suggest important practical implications for the design of new partnerships and the updating of existing initiatives. This interdisciplinary book will be of great interest to researchers, students, and practitioners within international relations, political science, sociology, environmental studies and global studies, as well as the growing number of scholars in public policy, global health and organizational and business studies who are keen to gain a deeper understanding of the pathways and mechanisms that influence the outcomes and effectiveness of cross-sector collaboration and transnational governance more broadly.
