This volume contains the proceedings of the conference ``Analysis, Geometry and Quantum Field Theory'' held at Potsdam University in September 2011, which honored Steve Rosenberg's 60th birthday. The symposium held in honour of the 60th birthday of Graeme Segal brought together leading physicists and mathematicians. Its topics were centred around string theory, M-theory, and quantum gravity on the one hand, and K-theory, elliptic cohomology, quantum cohomology and string topology on the other. Geometry and quantum physics developed in parallel since the recognition of the central role of non-abelian gauge theory in elementary particle physics in the late seventies and the emerging study of super-symmetry and string theory. Matroids appear in diverse areas of mathematics, from combinatorics to algebraic topology and geometry, and "Coxeter Matroids" provides an intuitive and interdisciplinary treatment of their theory. In this text, matroids are examined in terms of symmetric and finite reflection groups; also, symplectic matroids and the more general coxeter matroids are carefully developed. The Gelfand-Serganova theorem, which allows for the geometric interpretation of matroids as convex polytopes with certain symmetry properties, is presented, and in the final chapter, matroid representations and combinatorial flag varieties are discussed. With its excellent bibliography and index and ample references to current research, this work will be useful for graduate students and research mathematicians.
