Nestled in the Piedmont region of the Appalachian Mountains, the small farming community of Pine Ankle was established in the 1830s on the former lands of the Creek Nation. In 1872, industrialists Samuel Noble and Daniel Tyler purchased the land for their Woodstock Iron Company, and in 1883 the town was opened to the public as Annie's Town. It grew rapidly, and by the early 20th century Anniston was not only the seat of Calhoun County, but also home to numerous textile and iron industries as well as a thriving military complex. John Jeremiah Collier was born about 1760 probably in Scotland. He married Sarah Ann Wood about 1861. They lived in North Carolina and had seven children. Henry Ledbetter was probably born in England in about 1625. He probably emigrated as a child and settled in Virginia. He married and had about eight children. He died before 1700 in Charles City County, Virginia. Descendants and relatives lived mainly in Virginia, North Carolina, Alabama, Georgia, Illinois, Tennessee, Missouri and Texas.

Alexander Argoe, Jr. was born between 1710 and 1720 in Virginia or Maryland. He married Sarah Tharpe before 1750. Their descendants are traced through their son, Alexander (1753-1820) and his wife, Salley Davis. Descendants are scattered throughout the U.S.

John Christian Hoffman was born in about 1705 in Germany. His parents were Hans Georg Hoffman and Catherina Margaret. He married and had seven children. They emigrated in 1751and settled first in Virginia and then moved on to Orange County, North Carolina. He died in 1780. Descendants and relatives lived mainly in North Carolina, Tennessee and Texas.
