Welcome to Bavaria - Germany - to the THIRD EUROPEAN CARS/TRUCKS SIMULATION SYMPOSIUM. That Schliersee traditional workshop-type meeting is a follow-up to the first and the second symposia which took place in May 1984 and May 1989 respectively. The objective of gathering together is to cover most of the aspects of Automotive Mathematical Modelling and Simulation in theory and practice to promote the exchange of knowledge and experience between different national and international research groups in that field, taking into consideration that every seventh German employee is related to the automotive industry. This effect is also in power at least with the traditional Detroit (U.S.A.) Automotive Industries and the growing up Japanease as well. Futhermore, there is to strenghten the international contact between developers and users of modelling and simulation techniques considering the "new world order" started in 1991 with no borders between West and East affected by the Golf-War and followed up by the "open" European Community borders of 1992. VI The traditional International Conference jointly promoted by ASIMUTH - Applied Simulation Technology and some other members of the Society of Computer Simulaton created an interest to publish new projects including their results. A large number of contributed papers has been strictly examined and selected by the editorial commitee to guarantee a high international technical standard.

This work presents an investigation of the influence of different modeling approaches on the quality of fuel economy simulations of hybrid electric powertrains. The main focus is on the challenge to accurately include transient effects and reduce the computation time of complex models. Methods for the composition of entire powertrain models are analyzed as well as the modeling of the individual components internal combustion engine and battery. The results shall help with the selection of suitable models for specific simulation tasks and provide a deeper understanding of the dynamic processes within simulations of hybrid electric vehicles. About the Author Florian Winke was research associate at the Research Institute of Automotive Engineering and Vehicle Engines Stuttgart (FKFS), where he worked on modeling and simulation of hybrid electric powertrains. After finishing his doctorate, he joined a German automotive manufacturer, where he is working in software development in the field of hybrid operation strategies.

In the 21st century, computer integrated manufacturing (CIM) systems will not only be the economic development tools but will also be the essential means of achieving a higher level of flexibility, cohesiveness and performance. CIM systems are beginning to settle into our society and industries, with greater emphasis on the integration of economic, cultural and social aspects together with design, planning, factory automation and artificial intelligent systems.This volume of proceedings brings together 10 keynote and invited speaker addresses, and over 180 papers by practitioners from 28 countries. This book covers the problem of fidelity in the design of virtual environments with specific reference to the design of vehicle simulators. The default design goal has been on the physical replication of a given real-world environment and, in the case of vehicles, the specific appearance and function of vehicle components. This book discusses that perceptual, rather than physical, fidelity of a virtual environment, should be the design goal and the principal purpose is to produce human behavior. This book provides the rationale and design guidance to maximize perceptual fidelity in the development of virtual environments, and therefore maximize the costeffectiveness as well.
