BOOK EXCERPT:
This invaluable monograph is devoted to a rapidly developing area on the research of qualitative theory of fractional ordinary and partial differential equations. It provides the readers the necessary background material required to go further into the subject and explore the rich research literature. The tools used include many classical and modern nonlinear analysis methods such as fixed point theory, measure of noncompactness method, topological degree method, the technique of Picard operators, critical point theory and semigroup theory. Based on the research work carried out by the authors and other experts during the past seven years, the contents are very recent and comprehensive. In this edition, two new topics have been added, that is, fractional impulsive differential equations, and fractional partial differential equations including fractional Navier-Stokes equations and fractional diffusion equations.

BOOK EXCERPT:
The field of fractional calculus (FC) is more than 300 years old, and it presumably stemmed from a question about a fractional-order derivative raised in communication between L'Hopital and Leibniz in the year 1695. This branch of mathematical analysis is regarded as the generalization of classical calculus, as it deals with the derivative and integral operators of fractional order. The tools of fractional calculus are found to be of great utility in improving the mathematical modeling of many natural phenomena and processes occurring in the areas of engineering, social, natural, and biomedical sciences. Fractional Difference, Differential Equations, and Inclusions: Analysis and Stability is devoted to the existence and stability (Ulam-Hyers-Rassias stability and asymptotic stability) of solutions for several classes of functional fractional difference equations and inclusions. Some equations include delay effects of finite, infinite, or state-dependent nature. Others are subject to impulsive effect which may be fixed or non-instantaneous. The tools used to establish the existence results for the proposed problems include fixed point theorems, densifiability techniques, monotone iterative technique, notions of Ulam stability, attractivity and the measure of non-compactness as well as the measure of weak noncompactness. All the abstract results are illustrated by examples in applied mathematics, engineering, biomedical, and other applied sciences. Introduces notation, definitions, and foundational concepts of fractional q-calculus Presents existence and attractivity results for a class of implicit fractional q-difference equations in Banach and Fréchet spaces Focuses on the study of a class of coupled systems of Hilfer and Hilfer-Hadamard fractional differential equations

BOOK EXCERPT:
This book explores fractional differential equations with a fixed point approach. The authors highlight the existence, uniqueness, and stability results for various classes of fractional differential equations. All of the problems in the book also deal with some form of of the well-known Hilfer fractional derivative, which unifies the Riemann-Liouville and Caputo fractional derivatives. Classical and new fixed point theorems, associated with the measure of noncompactness in Banach spaces as well as several generalizations of the Gronwall's lemma, are employed as tools. The book is based on many years of research in this area, and provides suggestions for further study as well. The authors have included illustrations in order to support the readers’ understanding of the concepts presented. Includes illustrations in order to support readers understanding of the presented concepts · Approaches the topic of fractional differential equations while employing fixed point theorems as tools · Presents novel results, which build upon previous literature and many years of research by the authors

BOOK EXCERPT:
This text provides the first comprehensive treatment of the discrete fractional calculus. Experienced researchers will find the text useful as a reference for discrete fractional calculus and topics of current interest. Students who are interested in learning about discrete fractional calculus will find this text to provide a useful starting point. Several exercises are offered at the end of each chapter and select answers have been provided at the end of the book. The presentation of the content is designed to give ample flexibility for potential use in a myriad of courses and for independent study. The novel approach taken by the authors includes a simultaneous treatment of the fractional- and integer-order difference calculus (on a variety of time scales, including both the usual forward and backwards difference operators). The reader will acquire a solid foundation in the classical topics of the discrete calculus while being introduced to exciting recent developments, bringing them to the frontiers of the subject. Most chapters may be covered or omitted, depending upon the background of the student. For example, the text may be used as a primary reference in an introductory course for difference equations which also includes discrete fractional calculus. Chapters 1—2 provide a basic introduction to the delta calculus including fractional calculus on the set of integers. For courses where students already have background in elementary real analysis, Chapters 1—2 may be covered quickly and readers may then skip to Chapters 6—7 which present some basic results in fractional boundary value problems (FBVPs). Chapters 6—7 in conjunction with some of the current literature listed in the Bibliography can provide a basis for a seminar in the current theory of FBVPs. For a two-semester course, Chapters 1—5 may be covered in depth, providing a very thorough introduction to both the discrete fractional calculus as well as the integer-order calculus.

BOOK EXCERPT:
The book presents qualitative results for different classes of fractional equations, including fractional functional differential equations, fractional impulsive differential equations, and fractional impulsive functional differential equations, which have not been covered by other books. It manifests different constructive methods by demonstrating how these techniques can be applied to investigate qualitative properties of the solutions of fractional systems. Since many applications have been included, the demonstrated techniques and models can be used in training students in mathematical modeling and in the study and development of fractional-order models.

BOOK EXCERPT:
Computational science is a rapidly growing multidisciplinary field concerned with the design, implementation, and use of mathematical models to analyze and solve real-world problems. It is an area of science that spans many disciplines and which involves the development of models and allows the use of computers to perform simulations or numerical analysis to understand problems that are computational and theoretical. Computational Science and its Applications provides an opportunity for readers to develop abilities to pose and solve problems that combine insights from one or more disciplines from the natural sciences with mathematical tools and computational skills. This requires a unique combination of applied and theoretical knowledge and skills. The topics covered in this edited book are applications of wavelet and fractals, modeling by partial differential equations on flat structure as well as on graphs and networks, computational linguistics, prediction of natural calamities and diseases like epilepsy seizure, heart attack, stroke, biometrics, modeling through inverse problems, interdisciplinary topics of physics, mathematics, and medical science, and modeling of terrorist attacks and human behavior. The focus of this book is not to educate computer specialists, but to provide readers with a solid understanding of basic science as well as an integrated knowledge on how to use essential methods from computational science. Features: Modeling of complex systems Cognitive computing systems for real-world problems Presentation of inverse problems in medical science and their numerical solutions Challenging research problems in many areas of computational science This book could be used as a reference book for researchers working in theoretical research as well as those who are doing modeling and simulation in such disciplines as physics, biology, geoscience, and mathematics, and those who have a background in computational science.
