BOOK EXCERPT:
Churches today do not know how to deal with domestic violence. The church will often tell the abused to go home and win over their spouse or remain silent, while the abused is being beaten sometimes to death. The Bible in Ephesians 5:25 and 1 Peter 3:7 tells the husband to love his wife as Christ loves the church and the woman is told to submit out of love to their husband (Ephesians 5:22).Biblical solutions was written under the power of the Holy Spirit in hopes of letting the abused know that this is not GodaEUR(tm)s plan for their marriage or their life. Also, we hope to educate the church on how to deal with and counsel couples in the area of domestic violence. Lastly, to help the abuser identify their behavior and turn away from it and to empower the abused to seek help and get out of the abusive situation.By His grace and peace,Travielle Pope

BOOK EXCERPT:
Experts estimate that 1-in-3 women suffer from some form of violence from a husband, boyfriend, or relative. Any form of abuse is a flagrant violation of the marriage vows, "to have and to hold from this day forward, to love and to cherish, 'til death do us part." And although such abuse is too frequently behind closed doors, it is blatantly in the open before the eyes of the Lord. This mini-book is a quick overview and is easy-to-understand. It focuses on the key issues and is perfect for the busy person who needs instant advice. Included in the mini-book Domestic Violence: Assault on a Woman's Worth are abuse checklists with a list of behaviors that you may have observed or experienced. God has a heart for those who are victims of domestic violence. He wants you to know that he hears your cries; he thinks you are worthy of love without violence, and he holds you in the palm of his hand. Learn the causes of violent behavior and the reasons many women won't leave abusive relationships. This book will give you the tools to learn: How to answer a person who claims that violence is justifiedHow to know whether the abuser has really changedHow to build healthy boundariesHow to prepare a safety planAnd much more God designed the marriage relationship to benefit one another. He intended married couples to love, honor, and cherish each other all the days of their lives, but life doesn't always turn out that way. In some relationships, cruelty has replaced the sacred relationship defined by God. The Domestic Violence mini-book outlines a Christian approach to help you identify and stop physical and emotional abuse.

BOOK EXCERPT:
Is your church prepared to care for individuals who have experienced various forms of abuse? As we continue to learn of more individuals experiencing sexual abuse, domestic violence, and other forms of abuse, it’s clear that resources are needed to help ministries and leaders care for these individuals with love, support, and in cooperation with civil authorities. This handbook seeks to help the church take a significant step forward in its care for those who have been abused. Working in tandem with the Church Cares resources and videos, this handbook brings together leading evangelical trauma counselors, victim advocates, social workers, attorneys, batterer interventionists, and survivors to equip pastors and ministry leaders for the appropriate initial responses to a variety of abuse scenarios in churches, schools, or ministries. Though the most comprehensive training is experienced by using this handbook and the videos together, readers who may be unable to access the videos can use this handbook as a stand-alone resource.

BOOK EXCERPT:
This book examines personal and professional understandings of religion in psychotherapy and advocates for integrity, competency, and cultural pluralism in clinical practice. A major feature of this book is that it confirms the massive proliferation of religion-oriented approaches to counseling and therapy in recent years. It attributes this rise to opportunism and exaggerated individualism among therapists and to the frequent failures of professional associations, clinical preparation programs, and other influences. In response to these influences, it identifies the need for guiding principles for integrating religion into therapy, discusses the religious issues that clients bring to therapy, and advocates for major changes in clinical practice, with emphasis on integrity and competence. Building on a large volume of research and using evidence-based conclusions, it clarifies how these two major features of contemporary life can be integrated with integrity and competence. The author maintains that religion should be a feature of the practice of counseling and therapy, so long as it addresses the clinically relevant needs of clients. However, it also explores how the religion of counselors and therapists often expresses the needs of counselors and therapists, instead of addressing the needs of their clients. In the context of these questions and discussion of contentious challenges, this book provides guidelines for relating religion with clinical practice and recommends needed actions by clinical preparation programs, professional associations, individual therapists, state legislatures, licensing boards, social service agencies, and corporations. All of this stands on the conspicuous need for professional accountability in the delivery of mental health care.
