BOOK EXCERPT:
Why should the cross--an object of Roman distaste and Jewish disgust--be the emblem of our worship and the axiom of our faith? And what does it mean for us today? In this thoughtful, comprehensive study of Scripture, tradition and the modern world, John R. W. Stott brings you face to face with the centrality of the cross in God's plan of redemption.

It is basic to the Christian understanding of theology, history, and every other field of knowledge. Indeed, it is an issue so vast and significant that few books even attempt to span the broad spectrum of topics it raises.

It's designed to present a collective perspective, laying out plainly on a plate of soul food the concepts, elements and cyclical pattern of love. BOOK EXCERPT:
For centuries, Biblical scholars have attempted to prove statements of the Christian religion, yet today, there are still no definite answers in Christianity that provide us with confirmation of the true existence of the Trinity. Treasured Writings shares a unique introduction to God the Father and Jesus Christ who H. Th. Lilipaly says he received at the foot of the Cross of Golgotha-Calvary to confirm the absolute answer to the question: Where might we find a degree of certainty and be inspired by the principles of a high standard of Christian thinking? As Lilipaly explores questions about Christian Trinity, the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, as well as God's word, he also offers insight into how he came to an understanding as to why being a Christian and having Christian consciousness is entirely different than what Christ expects of us. Throughout the ages, Christian philosophers and theologians have tried to present to us the truth of the Trinity through formulas, doctrines, research, and contemplations of the Bible without ever presenting an intrinsic truth. Treasured Writings opens the door to the acceptance of principles that focus on the reality of God in the light of the Cross of Christ.

BOOK EXCERPT:
It is about life beyond the cross. The book takes us through some of what the cross of Calvary actually means and the stages of the life of Christ before, on and beyond the cross after his resurrection and ascension to heaven. In other words, Jesus Christ before the cross was not the same as he hanged on the cross; neither was he the same Jesus Christ after his resurrection and ascension to heaven (2Corinthians 5:16). It is also an effort to throw some light on the cross of Jesus Christ and its connection to Gods plan and power of salvation for mankind; much more, it shares to reveal the rightful position of power and authority of the New Creation in Christ and how he or she can operate in the realms of Gods glory right here on earth.

BOOK EXCERPT:
The Ruthwell Cross is one of the finest Anglo-Saxon high crosses that have come down to us. The longest epigraphic text in the Old English Runes Corpus is inscribed on two sides of the monument: it forms an alliterative poem, in which the Cross itself narrates the crucifixion episode. Parts of the inscription are irrevocably lost. This study establishes a historico-cultural context for the Ruthwell Cross’s texts and sculptures. It shows that The Ruthwell Crucifixion Poem is an integral part of a Christian artefact but also an independent text. Although its verses match closely with lines of The Dream of the Rood in the Vercelli Book, a comparative analysis gives new insight into their complex relationship. An annotated transliteration of the runes offers intriguing information for runologists. Detailed linguistic and metrical analyses finally yield a new reconstruction of the lost runes. All in all, this study takes a fresh look at the Ruthwell Cross and provides the first scholarly edition of the reconstructed Ruthwell Crucifixion Poem—one of the earliest religious poems of Anglo-Saxon England. It will be of interest to scholars and students of historical linguistics, medieval English literature and culture, art history, and archaeology.
