Church Dogmatics Study Edition 13

eBook Download

BOOK EXCERPT:

Karl Barth's Church Dogmatics is one of the major theological works of the 20th century. The Swiss-German theologian Karl Barth (1886-1968) was the most original and significant Reformed theologian of the twentieth century. Barth began the Church Dogmatics in 1932 and continued working on its thirteen volumes until the end of his life. Barth's writings continue to guide and instruct the preaching and teaching of pastors and academics worldwide. The English translation was prepared by a team of scholars and edited by G. W. Bromiley and T. F. Torrance and published from 1936. A team of scholars at Princeton Theological Seminary have now provided the translation of Greek, Latin, Hebrew and French passages into English. The original is presented alongside the English translation. This makes the work more reader friendly and accessible to the growing number of students who do not have a working knowledge of the ancient languages. This new edition with translations is now available for the first time in individual volumes.

Research For The Academy And The Church Tyndale House And Fellowship

eBook Download

BOOK EXCERPT:

"For more than sixty years, Tyndale House and the associated Tyndale Fellowship have made a unique and vital contribution to the healthy condition of contemporary biblical studies, and of historic Christianity in the United Kingdom and worldwide." "The House and fellowship were founded in 1944, at a time when many conservative Christians failed to see any need for 'biblical and theological research', and when many academics were sceptical about whether committed Christians could engage in such research with intellectual integrity. The founders included such figures as F. F. Bruce, W. J . Martin , Douglas Johnson and D. Martyn Lloyd-Jones." "Thomas A. Noble traces the history of Tyndale House and the Tyndale Fellowship across the decades. His detailed narrative covers internal discussions and debates, progress through difficulties and discouragements, and eventual outward recognition, success and influence." "This valuable and informative volume will appeal to all who know Tyndale House and its work, members of the Fellowship and related institutions, and all with an interest in the history of Christianity in the twentieth century."--BOOK JACKET.

The Dynamism Of Space

eBook Download

BOOK EXCERPT:

This book is a companion volume to the author's The Anachronism of Time, about which Peter Forster in a Church Times review wrote 'These matters are handled with considerable subtlety and insight'. Here in Dynamism of Space, lain MacKenzie, a Residentiary Canon of Worcester, explores the language used about space and infinity - especially among philosophers of earlier centuries. He also attempts to show how theology and physics walk hand in hand, mentioning particularly data which is coming in via the Hubble telescope and what this says about the beginning of space and time. The central core of the work is the Incarnation, where the existence of God takes the existence of created reality to itself and where proper questions about space become clear in their proper context. `Drawing on an unusual assembly of patristic, medieval and Reformation writers MacKenzie evaluates their arguments with comments which often challenge widely accepted theological and philosophical ways of thinking. lain MacKenzie has produced a persistent attempt to pursue fundamental questions, offering reflections that are often sharp, shrewd, and interestingly provocative. This is a book worth wrestling with.' - Rt Revd Dr D. E. Jenkins.

This is the second of a three-volume commentary on the gospel of Matthew from Europe's leading Matthew scholar. Volume 1 Matthew 1-7 was previously published in the "Continental Commentaries" series. Luz's commentary is especially noteworthy, not only for his incisive exegesis, but also his keen eye for the importance of the history of interpretation and his attention to the relevance of the New Testament for contemporary Christian ethics. This commentary includes excursuses on Son of David; Matthew's Interpretation of the Parables; Peter in the Gospel of Matthew; and Son of Man.
