ISSN: 2397-9607 Issue 246 In this 246th ÿissue of the Baba Indaba?s Children's Stories series, Baba Indaba narrates the story of ?CINDERELLA? also known in some places as ?the Little Glass Slipper.? A widower marries for a second time after his first wife passes away. Very soon after the marriage, the new wife?s true countenance is displayed, as are those of her two mean-spirited daughters. The gentleman?s daughter by his first marriage is treated like a housemaid and servant rather than a sister and relegated to the kitchen to sit on a stool along the fireplace. They nickname her Cinderella, or maid of the cinders. One day a messenger from the King?s court arrives with invitations to the ball. Is it coincidence that the Stepmother and step-sisters forget to extend the invite to Cinderella. Nevertheless, Cinderella is put to work making and adjusting the ball gowns of beautiful silks, pressing the pleats, polishing the jewellery and getting them ready for the ball. On the day, off they go to the ball leaving Cinderella seated on her stool by the fire wishing she could go as well. And then something strange and altogether wonderful happens. A bright blue light appears and shimmers in the kitchen??? What happened next you ask? Did Cinders get to go to the ball or was she whisked away to a far and distant land? Well, you?ll just have to download and read the story to find out. Also, be sure to read the story?s moral message at the end. BUY ANY 4 BABA INDABA CHILDREN?S STORIES FOR ONLY $1 33% of the profit from the sale of this book will be donated to charities. ÿ INCLUDES LINKS TO DOWNLOAD 8 FREE STORIES ÿ Each issue also has a "WHERE IN THE WORLD - LOOK IT UP" section, where young readers are challenged to look up a place on a map somewhere in the world. Baba Indaba translates as "Father of Stories".

BOOK EXCERPT:
The Banbury Cross Series was a collection of 12 volumes of books edited by Grace Rhys and published in London by Dent in the 1890s. Each book is attractively illustrated with full page and partial page pen and ink drawings in a classic Art Nouveau style by leading artists of the era. In this volume Rhys brings four lesser known children's tales together with the humourous black and white illustrations of Alice M. Mitchell. Titty Mouse and Tatty Mouse, The Story of Mr. Vinegar, The Story of Chicken-licken, and Lazy Jack are depicted with wit, charm and love. Many of the earliest children's books, particularly those dating back to the 1900s and before, are now extremely scarce and increasingly expensive. Pook Press are working to republish these classic works in affordable, high quality editions, using the original text and artwork so these works can delight another generation of children.

BOOK EXCERPT:
This book is a journey through the fairy-tale wardrobe, explaining how the mercurial nature of fashion has shaped and transformed the Western fairy-tale tradition. Many of fairy tale’s most iconic images are items of dress: the glass slippers, the red capes, the gowns shining like the sun, and the red shoes. The material cultures from which these items have been conjured reveal the histories of patronage, political intrigue, class privilege, and sexual politics behind the most famous fairy tales. The book not only reveals the sartorial truths behind Cinderella’s lost slippers, but reveals the networks of female power woven into fairy tale itself.

BOOK EXCERPT:
Cinderella’s transformation from a lowly, overlooked servant into a princess who attracts everyone’s gaze has become a powerful trope within many cultures. Inspired by the Cinderella archive of books and collectables at the University of Bedfordshire, the essays in this collection demonstrate how the story remains active in various different societies where social and family relationships are adapting to modern culture. The volume explores the social arenas of dating apps and prom nights, as well as contemporary issues about women’s roles in the home, and gender identity. Cinderella’s cultural translation is seen through the contributors’ international perspectives: from Irish folklore to the Colombian Cenicienta costeña (Cinderella of the coast) and Spanish literary history. Its transdisciplinarity ranges from fashion in Charles Perrault and the Brothers Grimm’s publications to a comparison of Cinderella and Galatea on film, and essays on British authors Nancy Spain, Anne Thackeray Ritchie and Frances Hodgson Burnett.
