Class Leaders

BOOK EXCERPT:

In 1988, The General Conference of the United Methodist Church restored class leaders and class meetings to the Book of Discipline after an absence of fifty years. In this volume, David Lowes Watson explains what the recovery of this tradition can mean for congregations, and offers some guidelines for the revitalized office of class leader. Adapting the later Methodist class meeting as a pastoral subdivision of the congregation, Watson shows how class leaders, under the supervision of the pastor, can nurture the discipline of other church members in light of a "General Rule of Discipline" derived from the early Methodist societies: "To witness to Jesus Christ in the world, and to follow his teachings through acts of compassion, justice, worship, and devotion, under the guidance of the Holy Spirit." This volume is the second in a trilogy : Covenant Discipleship, Class Leaders, and Forming Christian Disciples.

A Collective Biography Of Twelve World Class Leaders

eBook Download

BOOK EXCERPT:

This collective biography on twelve world-class leaders provides timeless principles on how families, as well as educational, civic, religious, and military organizations, can facilitate the development of exemplary leaders. The biographies and autobiographies of great leaders reveal the importance of an involved parent, happy childhood, plethora of "apprenticeships," rich formal and informal education, a steady stream of prodigious patrons, gracious critics, and a favorable fate. In addition to biographical data, this study synthesizes the various trends in leadership studies to develop a comprehensive model. A coherent theory on leadership has been elusive because scholars have focused on specific parts of leadership without recognition of the whole. The biographical data and synthesis of various leadership theories demonstrates that leaders share similar story lines in their development. The seven identified influences and the three stages of leadership development outlined in the book illustrate themes necessary for true leadership qualities to emerge within an individual. This book is intended for anyone interested in developing exceptional leaders.

Class Struggle And The Industrial Revolution

eBook Download

BOOK EXCERPT:

Class Struggle and the Industrial Revolution represents both a continuation of, and a stark contrast to, the impressive tradition of social history which has grown up in Britain in the last two decades. Its use of sophisticated quantitative techniques for the dissection of urban social structures will serve as a model for subsequent research workers. This work examines the impact of industrialization on the social development of the cotton manufacturing town of Oldham from 1790-1860; in particular how the experience of industrial capitalism aided the formation of a coherent organized mass class consciousness capable by 1830 of controlling all the vital organs of local government in the town. This will be a useful study to any student of the industrial revolution.
