BOOK EXCERPT:

Doctoral Thesis / Dissertation from the year 2004 in the subject Chemistry - Organic Chemistry, Bangalore University / Central College (Department of Studies in Chemistry), language: English, abstract: The importance of ß-amino acids has been focused, particularly in the past few decades. They are found as components of many biologically active peptidic and nonpeptidic natural products with antibiotic, antifungal, cytotoxic, and other pharmacological properties. ß-Amino acids are produced in humans, animals, microorganisms, marine organisms, and plants either in free state or as part of a peptide or depsipeptide. The importance of nonpeptidic ß-amino acids has been nfocused particularly on the ß-lactam antibiotics, since naturally occurring penicillin derivatives have been discovered as broad antibiotic active agents. Over the years, a large number of these compounds have been prepared and tested, and a variety of new ß-lactam ring systems have been introduced such as cephems, cephalosporins, oxacephems, penems, carbapenems, oxapenams as well as monocyclic and polycyclic ring systems. ß-Amino acids have been known to play an important role in primary and secondary metabolism also. Combinatorial Chemistry

eBook Download

BOOK EXCERPT:

The story of success goes on and on - with a new book on combinatorial chemistry, edited by Gunther Jung! Combinatorial chemistry is a proven time- and resource-saving synthetic method of outstanding importance for industrial processes. Compound libraries help to save time and money, especially in the search for new drugs, and therefore play a pivotal role in solving the problem of the worldwide increasing demand for new and more active drugs. Not only substances, which are of interest for pharmaceutical chemistry, but also materials, catalysts, and biomolecules such as DNA or oligosaccharides are readily available with high structural diversities. The broad scope of combinatorial sciences is reflected by this book, edited by Gunther Jung: The synthetic methods discussed range from solid-phase to solution-phase synthesis, from preparations of small molecules such as amines or alcohols to those of complex biomolecules. Feasible methods, efficient techniques, new trends in automation, and state-of-the-art fast instrumental analytical and screening methods are presented with many practical tips and tricks for everybody working in combinatorial chemistry. This is the book written by specialists for specialists and for everyone aspiring to become an insider! It is an indispensible source of information for researchers working in organic synthesis, catalysis, biochemistry, and biotechnology, pharmaceutical and clinical chemistry, material sciences, and analytical chemistry.

Microwaves In Organic And Medicinal Chemistry

eBook Download

BOOK EXCERPT:

Tailored to the needs of medicinal and natural products chemists, the second edition of this unique handbook brings the contents up to speed, almost doubling the amount of chemical information with an additional volume. As in the predecessor, a short introductory section covers the theoretical background and evaluates currently available instrumentation and equipment. The main part of the book then goes on to systematically survey the complete range of published microwave-assisted synthesis methods from their beginnings in the 1990s to mid-2011, drawing on data from more than 5,000 reports and publications. Throughout, the focus is on those reactions, reagents and reaction conditions that work, and that are the most relevant for medicinal and natural products chemistry. A much expanded section is devoted to combinatorial, highthroughput and flow chemistry methods.
