The four-volume set comprising LNCS volumes 3021/3022/3023/3024 constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 8th European Conference on Computer Vision, ECCV 2004, held in Prague, Czech Republic, in May 2004. The 190 revised papers presented were carefully reviewed and selected from a total of 555 papers submitted. The four books span the entire range of current issues in computer vision. The papers are organized in topical sections on tracking; feature-based object detection and recognition; geometry; texture; learning and recognition; information-based image processing; scale space, flow, and restoration; 2D shape detection and recognition; and 3D shape representation and reconstruction.

Ten years ago, the inaugural European Conference on Computer Vision was held in Antibes, France. Since then, ECCV has been held biennially under the auspices of the European Vision Society at venues around Europe. This year, the privilege of organizing ECCV 2000 falls to Ireland and it is a signal honour for us to host what has become one of the most important events in the calendar of the computer vision community. ECCV is a single-track conference comprising the highest quality, previously unpublished, contributed papers on new and original research in computer vision. This year, 266 papers were submitted and, following a rigorous double-blind review process, with each paper being reviewed by three referees, 116 papers were selected by the Programme Committee for presentation at the conference. The venue for ECCV 2000 is the University of Dublin, Trinity College. - unded in 1592, it is Ireland’s oldest university and has a proud tradition of scholarship in the Arts, Humanities, and Sciences, alike. The Trinity campus, set in the heart of Dublin, is an oasis of tranquility and its beautiful squares, elegant buildings, and tree-lined playing- elds provide the perfect setting for any conference.

The seven-volume set comprising LNCS volumes 7572-7578 constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 12th European Conference on Computer Vision, ECCV 2012, held in Florence, Italy, in October 2012. The 408 revised papers presented were carefully reviewed and selected from 1437 submissions. The papers are organized in topical sections on geometry, 2D and 3D shapes, 3D reconstruction, visual recognition and classification, visual features and image matching, visual monitoring: action and activities, models, optimisation, learning, visual tracking and image registration, photometry: lighting and colour, and image segmentation.

This book was conceived during the Workshop "Calibration and Orientation of Cameras in Computer Vision" at the XVIIth Congress of the ISPRS (In ternational Society of Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing), in July 1992 in Washington, D. C. The goal of this workshop was to bring photogrammetry and computer vision experts together in order to exchange ideas, concepts and approaches in camera calibration and orientation. These topics have been addressed in photogrammetry research for a long time, starting in the sec ond half of the 19th century. Over the years standard procedures have been developed and implemented, in particular for metric cameras, such that in the photogrammetric community such issues were considered as solved prob lems. With the increased use of non-metric cameras (in photogrammetry they are revealingly called "amateur" cameras), especially CCD cameras, and the exciting possibilities of acquiring long image sequences quite effortlessly and processing image data automatically, online and even in real-time, the need to take a new and fresh look at various calibration and orientation issues became obvious. Here most activities emerged through the computer vision commu nity, which was somewhat unaware as to what had already been achieved in photogrammetry. On the other hand, photogrammetrists seemed to ignore the new and interesting studies, in particular on the problems of orienta tion, that were being performed by computer vision experts.

This two-volume set constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 5th European Conference on Computer Vision, ECCV'98, held in Freiburg, Germany, in June 1998. The 42 revised full papers and 70 revised posters presented were carefully selected from a total of 223 papers submitted. The papers are organized in sections on multiple-view geometry, stereo vision and calibration, geometry and invariances, structure from motion, colour and indexing, grouping and segmentation, tracking, condensation, matching and registration, image sequences and video, shape and shading, motion and flow, medical imaging, appearance and recognition, robotics and active vision, and motion segmentation.

This volume collects the papers accepted for presentation at the Second European Conference on Computer Vision, held in Santa Margherita Ligure, Italy, May 19-22, 1992. Sixteen long papers, 41 short papers and 48 posters were selected from 308 submissions. The contributions are structured into 14 sections reflecting the major research topics in computer vision currently investigated worldwide. The sections are entitled: features, color, calibration and matching, depth, stereo-motion, tracking, active vision, binocular heads, curved surfaces and objects, reconstruction and shape, recognition, and applications.

The four-volume set comprising LNCS volumes 5302/5303/5304/5305 constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 10th European Conference on Computer Vision, ECCV 2008, held in Marseille, France, in October 2008. The 243 revised papers presented were carefully reviewed and selected from a total of 871 papers submitted. The four books cover the entire range of current issues in computer vision. The papers are organized in topical sections on recognition, stereo, people and face recognition, object tracking, matching, learning and features, MRFs, segmentation, computational photography and active reconstruction.
