Delivering The People S Message

eBook Download

BOOK EXCERPT:

Presidents have long invoked electoral mandates to justify the use of executive power. In Delivering the People’s Message, Julia R. Azari draws on an original dataset of more than 1,500 presidential communications, as well as primary documents from six presidential libraries, to systematically examine choices made by presidents ranging from Herbert Hoover in 1928 to Barack Obama during his 2008 election. Azari argues that Ronald Reagan’s election in 1980 marked a shift from the modern presidency formed by Franklin Delano Roosevelt to what she identifies as a more partisan era for the presidency. This partisan model is a form of governance in which the president appears to require a popular mandate in order to manage unruly and deeply contrary elements within his own party and succeed in the face of staunch resistance from the opposition party. Azari finds that when the presidency enjoys high public esteem and party polarization is low, mandate rhetoric is less frequent and employs broad themes. By contrast, presidents turn to mandate rhetoric when the office loses legitimacy, as in the wake of Watergate and Vietnam and during periods of intense polarization. In the twenty-first century, these two factors have converged. As a result, presidents rely on mandate rhetoric to defend their choices to supporters and critics alike, simultaneously creating unrealistic expectations about the electoral promises they will be able to fulfill.

Just Deliver The Message

eBook Download

BOOK EXCERPT:

Just Deliver the Message Paul was just an everyday, unassuming, ordinary man chosen to deliver life-changing messages to strangers. Could he have been mistaken for someone else and chosen incorrectly? Who was he to be given such a task? He was just barely a believer himself, with his own personal demons to battle. Thousands of believers discarded their personal belongings and assembled in an open field in Kentucky. By their faith alone, some followed a man unknown to them across America's heartland to find their destiny. Dark forces, determined to undermine the ultimate plan, battled the faithful at every turn. Spiritual warfare was something not to be played with, and it was hard to accept by even the most self-acclaimed believers. Minions of the darkness assured them of their reality. Would church leaders withstand the test of Paul's message or risk losing their salvation? Did Paul's messages save lives or result in eternal damnation?

Deliver The Urgent Messages For America

eBook Download

BOOK EXCERPT:

As a servant of Lord Jesus Christ, in the beginning of November 2008, under the calling of the Lord, I step into an amazing journey to write the book ?Build An American ARK-the Strategy and Method for U.S. Economic Revival? during the time of the 2008 economic crisis. In the past five years, the mission from the Lord led me from one station to another, the Grace of God continually carries me in the journey to discover the hidden treasure and economic strength in this land, a land of brave and freedom and dream, to study in depth the poison roots and cancers of U.S. economic and political system which are endangering the U.S. Constitution Dream and our nation's tomorrow. The zeal for our nation and people, the zeal for the Word of God brought me to the realm of Rekindle the Hope in America. Now, this book ?Deliver the Urgent Messages for America -the Urgency for U.S. Economic System Reform? is born. Our nation is like a train, where we came from and where we head to depend on who controls the system and who we listen to, the Truth of God or the lost world? It is written in Micah 6:8, the word spoke from the prophet is the Word of God and the Will of God: ?He has showed you, O man, what is good and what does the LORD require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God?. If U.S. government and its systems act justly and love mercy and walk humbly with the Most High Living God-the Creator of the Universe, the train of America will be led to real Hope-the Hope from above. May God's Word and His Holy Presence Rekindle the Hope in our hearts. God is Good! He makes beautiful things out of the dust and ash. His Love endures forever. ?Ling Ling Shi, author

Landscape Architecture As Storytelling

eBook Download

BOOK EXCERPT:

This book introduces students, practitioners, and laypeople to a comfortable approach to learning landscape architectural design free of design jargon and derived from their existing knowledge. A step-by-step process has readers consider their knowledge of language as metaphorically related to basic design and landscape design. Through information delivery and questioning processes, readers build on what they already know, their tacit understanding of language as applied to problem solving and storytelling. Everyone is a storyteller. Taken one step at a time through a three-tiered analogy of language, basic design, and landscape design, readers learn the makeup and role of such design features as points, lines, planes, volumes and sequential volumetric spaces that make up their worlds. With that, in a sense, new world view, and numerous questions and examples, readers begin to see that they in fact daily read the environments in which they live, work, play, raise families, and grow old. Once they realize how they read their surroundings they are helped to recognize that they can build narratives into their surroundings. At that point the existence of authored landscape narratives finds readers understanding a design process that relies on the designer-as-author, landscape-as-text, and participant, user-as-reader. That process has the reader write a first- or second-person narrative, visually interpret the written narrative into a storyboard, and turn the storyboard into a final design, the physical makeup of which is read by those who participate in it.
